A little slice of hell

I lived at Barclay Square for three years. I enjoyed the convenience of having a shopping center next door, access to public transportation, and my own personal balcony.
I also enjoyed the lack of adequate maintenance, dirty, dingy hallways, the frequently broken elevator, the rude management staff, and the overpriced laundry facilities.
But after looking at the whole experience, my FAVORITE things included the numerous visits the Upper Darby police department made to my building to just "say hi" to the local drug dealers and domestic violence committers, and the loud music that has shaken the shelves on my entertainment center just enough to break every single collectable plate I owned.
There was one manager there who actually showed some promise in bringing some good to the community, however she didn't last long. The hallways smell, and no matter how many locks I had on my door, I never really felt truly safe. But I was able to sleep at night, with the soothing sounds of the Upper Darby marching band, the constant rhythmic bass pumping from the guy below, the pigeons making nests on my balcony, and the occasional husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, ex-boyfriend/girlfriend, baby-momma/baby-daddy arguments, resulting in a single shot, oh, and the "day-care center" that was established in the apartment next door. Now and then it spilled into the hallway, guess that was their "field trip".
A little slice of hell...oh, and did I mention the complete lack of decent security combined with the "community center" which consisted of a concrete filled swimming pool'
Oh, and I did always have company, even when i thought I was alone...the mice and roaches were there to have afternoon tea, and helped me ring in the new year for three years solid!
A little slice of hell....
