The apartment are pathetic. Roaches, mice, paper thin walls, stinking hallways,.... They will show you a sample apartment and wont even let you see the apartment that you are going to live in until you sign the lease. On top of that they want you to sign the lease on the day you are moving in. So you are there with your stuff and movers, and then you get to see the pathetic condition of the apartment, what are you going to do. Either take it or loose your deposit plus the money you spent on movers. Then decide about which storage place to go to store your stuff.

The ladies who work in office are highly unprofessionals who don't even know how to talk to people. While I was there, I saw them shouting at an Asian girl tenant whose rental cheque they had lost. The kind of language they were using, one could smell the arrogance of a racist mindset.

In short, if you want peace of mind avoid it at any cost.

I think the ladies in that office loose the checks on purpose so they can evict and charge late fees. What difference it makes to them, I don't know. Those ladies are unprofessional and they are racist. They lost my friends rent check many times, and tried to evict her because of it so many times, it was a disgrace. Paying to stop checks, and track down money orders is stressful. If you want sanity, stay away from this place!

Yes, I remember when I was living in there and the women lost my rent money. They tried getting nasty with me until they seen that I wasn't the one to be played with. After I said what I had to say they immediately found my check and from that day on they were very respectful towards me. I think the only way to get what you want in that complex, you have to get nasty right back with those people!!! Oh, and I really didn't have any problems with mice or rats, it was these little termite looking bugs in the cabintes...i got the situation cleared, although it took a leg and an arm oh and some attitude!!!

That is so horrible that this happened to anyone. However you should be aware that Barclay Square has a new manager who is really trying to shake up and change somethings. With a true personal touch. Give them another look see, you will see the improved Barclay Square Apartment office staff.

Funny, when I read this post, I thought of my friend and neighbor who happens to be asian as well. The folks in that office lost her rent check 2 times. One of them times, she called me up in tears because she says she was humiliated by the office staff. She says they were yelling at her calling her a "liar" and "irresponsible" in front of customers. Get this...BARCLAY SQUARE were the ones who lost her check! I am wondering if that Asian girl you saw was my friend. This was at least 3 years ago though, so it may be coincidence or they are nast to all folks they consider a minority. I know of people that were going to move here, but after they see how horrible management treats the tenants, they quickly change their minds. I hear this place has a new management team, and that they are trying to rebuild their reputation. I say good luck with that. The last owners must have been very excited to own an apartment complex right next door to the courthouse. Tenants were wrongfully sued all the time. Most of the time, it was over a lost rent check that was not really lost, just conveniently misplaced by the office staff!

I'm currently looking for a apartment. I see there are little positive reviews for this complex. But what I don't understand is if you pay your rent with a check why are these people not getting a receipt for their payment? I pay my rent with a check and ALWAYS ask for a receipt.
