We got this place because it was cheap. Apparently, so did most of the other people who moved in around us. It was built in the early 60s as a Seniors' Community... They filled in the pool, closed the pool house, took away the storage rooms, keep jacking the prices of laundry (which is inadequate as is), and don't allow pets, bikes, or barbecues. You can't loiter in the courtyards...they don't even let you play catch out there. The parking lots are shoddy and need repair, and it's not uncommon to see police called out once a week or so to break up something or other. Fire alarms are often pulled by kids, evacuating buildings...but your smoke alarm will most likely not work. Oddly enough, most apartments have a special wall box to hold a box of tissues...and a built-in laundry hamper in the bathroom. Pigeons nest on your balcony, if you have one, coating it in about an inch of feces, feathers, and twigs and making it reek to open the sliding doors...you can't even walk out there it's so bad. And the maintenance people never fix anything when they say they will, or HOW they say they will. The heat is unbearable, and the building and all the apartments in it is devoid of any kind of real ventilation. In the winter, you boil just walking in..in the summer, it's dangerous to be indoors, even if your in-wall AC is blasting. Old ladies downstairs tend to forget and leave their heaters on, I think. I could go on and on, but I won't.

But it's cheap.
