Experience the Worst in One-Bedroom Living

Once you get past the seemingly serene exterior, these apartments and the management itself are horrible.
The grounds are kept pretty clean, and nothing ever gets solved with the management. Several times, there have been issues with my rent, with them claiming that my checks bounced (adding on a check return fee) or that I never paid, although the check imaging on my statements prove the contrary.
Maintenance work also seems never to get done, especially the wildly growing mold on my bathroom and living room walls. I have to bleach the walls every other week, becuase they haven't been able to do anything. It's unhealthy and just plain disgusting.
Even worse are the gigantic roaches, or "waterbugs," the termites on the bottom cabinets, and the walls so thin, you can hear your neighbor's conversations from your living room.
Oh, and buy some extra comforters for the cold months; the heat seems to be on only during the day (when no one's home, go figure). At night, especially with the balcony, you'll catch chills. Especially since the heaters are only in the bath and living rooms (again, go figure).
Just stay away from this place if you can, especially in the cold and damp months!

I hated this place! The mold tree grew on my walls as well! little/no heat & hot water in the winter. (I called the department of health on them last winter!)Maintenance never fixed anything right. Giant Cockroaches, mice & other misc. bugs. Horrible management team! You'll do yourself a big favor by avoiding this place! I'm so glad I am not there to endure another winter! I feel sorry for all those who still live there. Good Luck, best wishes for a better place!
PS-That sample is nothing like your apartment will be! Demand to see your place before you sign the lease and take pictures. The property manager David Krahn will make up all kinds of lies to keep your security deposit! Don't expect to get it back! He will charge you for pre-existing damages that you did not cause! I left the apartment in better condition than they gave to me and they say I left it a mess! Charged me $70 for venetian blinds and claimed they had to pay someone to clean the apartment! What a lie! My fiance & I scrubbed that place top to bottom so I could get my security back! That apartment was spotless, and I even repainted the walls before I left. I just found out that in PA it is the landlords responsibility to reclean the apartment for a new tenant and they charged me $100 for it! It's called normal wear n tear and tenants are not responsible for that! These @sses owe me money!
STAY AWAY FROM THE GARDENS!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!

After reading your post, I now understand why people leave the apartments a mess! Why bother to make your place look nice if they are going to keep your deposit anyway! I see maintanence cleaning out furniture after tenants all the time! No one stays here long. I swear people run for the hills with nothing more than the clothes on their backs to get away from this place. I too am looking for a more suitable place to live. The flying cockroaches & ghetto staff are too much to bare!

Well, things have certainly not improved since that last post. Just this weekend, by downstairs neighbors moved out after tolerating one very cold winter without heat, and refused to repeat the incident this year. Only one time did the heat come on in the fall of this year. The radiators were too hot to touch and it was so hot in my apartment that I had to open the windows. Next day, cold as ice. Reason, they were testing the heating system. They always have excuses for this, but I've lived here long enough to remember when my apartment was warm all winter long , therefore their only motive is cheapness.
Guess what? Two days after these people moved, the heat came back on, probably in anticipation of luring the next renters into the vacant apartment. I'm afraid they're in for a rude awakening.
Yes, the rodents and insects still run rampant throughout the complex and I've not seen one exterminator on the premises in months. The neighborhood is quiet now that most of the low income transients have left, and that's pretty bad when even they don't want to live here.
Summery: The Gardens is run by slumlords who don't give a damn about anything except capitalizing on people's gullibility and financial hardships. My recommendation is to avoid the Gardens like the Bubonic Plague.

This place is a disgrace. Ripping people off who have no money. Things such as venetian blinds are supposed to be replaced with each tenant and they are charging tenants for them when they move out???!! Tisk, tisk. What a shame. I agree with bigDAS, Everything he said is true....avoid this place like the plague.
BTW-Ask for an invoice when you move out. I hear this place refuses security deposit invoices-which is against the law! You have the right to see where and how your money was spent. Look it up! http://www.thelpa.com/
