Don't Do It To Yourself!

This place is the "bottom of the rung" when it comes to one-bedroom apartments. To be truthful, the bedroom is the size of a closet. Technically, it shouldn't even be considered a bed-room, given the fact that many of these bedrooms have NO doors, they should be called "studio-efficiency" apartments at best!
The roaches are gigantic. Many other insects invade your apartment in the summer months too. My cats caught mice all the time. I lived there for 1 year and I NEVER saw an exterminator-although they claim they will send one at the tenents request. All my requests were ignored. It does not matter how clean you keep your apartment; it will still have pests.
The maintenance staff is ghetto. The property manager has a horrible attitude. I stopped reporting problems when he would give me a hard time about everything. It's not like they actually fixed the things I reported anyway! These people tried to charge me for damages that where there when I moved in. So make a list, even better take pictures when you first move in. As another person mentioned-they will eat up your security deposit with phony charges. They took a very large portion of my security deoposit for things they did not clean or replace! (I know because I left the place in excellent condition...better than it was when I moved in!) I saved them work and I still got charged unreasonably!
My neighbors had all kinds of issues...from certified nut-jobs to drug addicts and criminals. Parking is a total nightmare-so if you have a car...plan on parking a long ways from your apartment on evenings and weekends. Not a good thing!
This place temporarily served it's purpose and I am greatful for it. I needed a cheap place while I got my finances in order. Conditions at this place were so bad, I moved before I had a chance to clean up my credit as planned. 2 months before my lease was up, I searched like crazy for a new place. I found another apartment and it's much bigger and nicer. I just had a baby. When I think about the conditions my newborn baby would have been living in if my current landlord denied me this new place...I cringe.
Winter at The Gardens was freezing and the heat was included with the rent! I remember my apartment being only 50 degrees in the middle of winter; needing to turn on the stove to heat my apartment. I had to bleach my walls every two weeks to control the black mold that grew on them. Paint chips pealing off my walls less than 4 months after I moved in. Those are horrible conditions for anybody to live under.
The Moral: Do your homework before you rent a new apartment. Decide whether the cheap rent is worth the aggrivation & other problems that may come with it. The cost may be greater in the long run.
I wish I knew about this website before I moved there. It would have saved me a lot of money and aggrivation.
Don't do it to yourself! Stay away from The Gardens!

Yo, it was so cold at this place in the winter that my long haired cats used to sleep directly in front of the radiator when the heat came on(if it came on)! It was terrible. They would purposely loose my rent checks so they could charge me late fees and court costs-even though I paid my rent on time. It's been 2 years since I lived here, and I from what I read they still have a rodent and insect problem. I'm just waiting to see this place on the 6 o'clock News one day. It is just disgraceful that a complex like this has been getting over on people for this long and no has called their Bluff yet!

I totally agree, I moved out of the Gardens and was excited when i did, they took a half of my security deposit, plus that Lauren is rude and disgusting to speak and look at.
Go to Park Lane East or Barclay Square and pay the extra 200 dollars...........the place is small and crappy like others mentioned.........one night i had a visitor and a nasty roach flew around,i was so humiliated, no wonder the dude decide to not return
