I lived their from 2001 to 2005 and I did not like it at all. First the apartment manager is nasty and prejudice. You have to prove it's their fault for them to fix anything in your apartment. Also they rent to anyone as long as they can pay the rent. The elevator never works and it's 4 floors in every complex. The building is very noisy and you everyhting in your neighbors apartment. They don't even shovel in the winter time. I also heard complaints from other tenants that they had leaks in their in ceilings that were never fixed. When you go to the leasing office(you have to because they don't answer the telephone)there just sitting down not doing anything. If you have noisy neighbors that fight and have parties all the time, deal with it or move. If you think the manager is going to do anything forget it. She is also very nosey and want to know your personal business. I say she is a very jealous woman whose job is to make the tenants lives miserable. Also the maintenence men are horrible. They watch everything you bring in your apt. So make sure you change the locks. They also look very creapy if you know what I mean. Their is only but 3 of them but keep an eye on them. I never would advise anyone to live here. There is a basketball court directly across the street and that is the hangout for all the teenagers. It can be 3am and you will still hear a basketball bouncing and loud noise and profanities. Remember they only have 1 bedrooms available. If they even have 2 bedrooms their always taken. I know I was there for 4 years. Please take my advice.

Just curious. Since you don't have anything positive to say about living there, why did u stay there for 4 years if it was so bad? Once my lease was up after the first year I would have been out of there if it was that bad! I did look at a apartment there for Bldg "C".

I found your review questionable. Why would you stay as long as you did if things were as you say. I just recently talked with someone who just move to purchase a home, and refered me to this complex. He said it was a very nice and quiet place to live. I am going to see for myself this weekend. This is the best time to view in my opinion.

I agree. I think that this person may have had a bad experience that only related to him/her. I also lived there for about 3 years (from 1999 to 2001) in Building C & I never had problems like she described. I got along very well with the manager & she actually helped me out with a bad situation when I couldn't pay my rent on time. I don't think that she was prejudiced at all. I am a black female & we got along fine. Also, if something needed to be fixed in my apartment, it was usually fixed within the week when I reported the issue. Maybe things changed after I left, but I didn't think it was that bad when I lived there.

The first year, I lived on the 1st floor of building C right across from the elevator, so it was a little loud. The next 2 years, I moved up to the 4th floor & it was much more quiet. I only heard my neighbors if they played their music loud or they yelled or something, but it was never anything worth reporting. It depends on who you live next to I guess.

I don't remember the elevators not working either. I lived on the 4th floor for 2 years & the elevator was never down when I lived there. However, I also lived closer to the stair case, so I tended to take the stairs more than the elevator.

Yes, there is a basketball court directly across from Building C, but I don't remember anyone playing ball at 3:00am. And if they did, I slept through it! HA HA!

If I did have a complaint about the place, it would only be the fact that there were many occasions where the fire alarm would go off in the middle of the night. The fire department is right down the street on the same block, so that's a good thing. It wasn't so bad that I wouldn't want to live there, but it was a little annoying.
I think that when you live in an apartment, you should expect noise & annoying neighbors. It's just one of those things you deal with until you can find something more affordable or you choose to buy a home of your own. However, I don't think that the Merion Trace Apartments are SO bad that I regret ever living there.
I agree with the 2 replies; if it was so bad, then why did you live there for 4 years?? I think I have the answer... It's because the rent was very affordable for the amenities included in the place & I'm sure the original poster agrees. I moved to Philly from a small town in NY & I found this place to be very afforable & it suited me fine.

I am the one you guys are referring to. i stayed their because I lived with my parent who can be passive at times and I'm not. I hated it their and like I said the elevator was always broke, the management sucked, and if you didn't have any problems - good for you. this site is for people who would like to get a previous renters advice before they make a mistake. Not people who already lived their and are commenting about everyone else comment. Who asked you? And the rent wasn't a problem if you need to know, all the prices for rent are about the same in that area. And if you still live their then i feel sorry for you because you cannot afford to live anywhere else. Get a better job and move out. Noise is expected in any place. But some neighbors can be rediculous. Fighting, and screaming, loud music, etc. This is not normal for EVERYDAY of the WEEK. So for the people who live or lived their here is your ----in answer. It's nasty their and if you don't like what i said. SO WHAT!!!!
