Goshen Meadows was bad news from the start. They refused to let us see an actual apartment, saying that they only ever showed the sample and that we were being unreasonable to want to see a real apartment. It was my first apartment so I believed them.
On moving day we went to sign the lease and they let us know that the building inspector had not approved the apartment yet so we could not move in. It would have been nice for them to let us know before we drove from New York. We actually had to fight them to not have to pay rent for that day. Later we find out that they simply forgot about our apartment and were busy throwing in carpeting and painting it.
We finally get to move in and the place is disgusting. Nearly black grouting, gigantic food stains all over the floor and a filthy refrigerator and cabinets. The doors to the utility/storage room and coat closet came off the track as soon as we used them.
Our air conditioner must have been 20 years old. We had incredibly high electricity bills in the summer - around $120 a month for a 1 bedroom. We couldn't sleep in our bedroom because the air conditioner wasn't powerful enough to reach into there.
The apartments are right next to a fire station which is nice to know in case of a fire, but the alarm goes off several times a day (or night) and is incredibly loud!
I lived on the 3rd floor and I can tell you for certain that there is a huge mold problem . We were lucky not to be directly affected, but our downstairs neightbors had to be moved. In one year they "fixed" the mold problem 3 times - it just keeps coming back. I didn't feel safe being so close to so much mold - ii simply had to be in the walls.
When we went to move out they informed us that they do not allow you to extend your lease into November, December, or January. They won't allow anyone to move out during that period.
When we did not get our carpeting professionally shampooed we were charged $90 from our deposit. Amazing - we left that apartment looking MUCH nicer than it was given to us!
I would never recommend living at Goshen Meadows. Had I known about the mold alone I would have stayed far, far away.
