Have an electrician check your wiring

Parking is crammed since one of the units burned down. This happened about five months ago and we still have half of the parking lot fenced off. This means everyone else has to cram into whatever spots are left over.
The biggest concern is the office staff. They're very standoffish and don't help at all once you sign the lease.
After the fire there was not any communication from the office. At my last apartment complex they would send monthly newsletters and update you if they were going to do something simple like pain the hall. Not here, an entire unit burns and we're not told anything. So rumors are floating everywhere. We've heard everything from arson to faulty wiring. Of course, the office won't tell, they still say it is under investigation even though they are already rebuilding the unit!'!
It's an old building and the consensus is (since the office won't talk to us) that this was an electrical fire. I would have your unit check before you move in. It's not very reinsuring to have an empty shell of a building down the street from you and you know that you're living in a similiar unit.
Be safe and move down the street to a unit that is safe and one that the office at least communicates with the tenats.
