I lived at Halstead for a year and after I moved was when the trouble started. I had given them my last months rent and at that time my bank account had been compromised and all my money had been stolen. I contacted the apartment complex and let them know what had happened and sent them a new check once my account was reactivated. Because the check I sent had bounced because of some idiot breaking into my account they decided to file a lawsuit against me. This was even after I had spoken to someone and explained what had happened and they had told me it was fine and to send a new check. THEY STILL WENT BACK ON THEIR WORD. I had dealt with the owner of the property and he was no help at all. He was rude and said it was not his problem. Then he went on and violated my privacy and told others about what had happened. That was a violation of a privacy law and I am now talking to a lawyer and trying to sue Halstead properties. I have lived in a couple apartment complexes and this was the worst experience of my life. STAY AWAY!!!! Save yourself from a lot of headaches and lawyer fees!!!

In their lease they state the fee for a bounced check. It's like $45.00 or something. If they filed a lawsuit against you then I am guessing there is a little more to your story that you are not telling us. You don't get smacked with a law suit for a bounced check! Hopefully your law suit won't drive up our rent. Thanks for that!
