Could be a LOT better

I moved here because it's a very nice apartment complex. The location is pretty good, about a 5 min. drive to downtown West Chester.
My experience here has not been as good as I had expected it would be from reading the reviews here...
My apartment was infested with bugs for a couple of months! They finally called the exterminators and the situation improved. Now that the weather is getting warm again, I'm starting to have the same problem.
When I first moved in, Bobbie was working at the office, and she was AMAZING! She left soon after though, and after she left, they never fixed the things they said they would.
There's only one trash disposal room, and it is pretty disgusting.
The parking is actually very good. There's always enough parking for residents and visitors.
They had a pool, but they decided to get rid of it. We just found out about this about a week ago, and they are sending the lease extensions out this week. Once they send the lease extension, they give you only about a week to decide if you're staying with them for a whole year, renewing month-to-month (for an additional fee), or leaving. Don't bother asking for an extension, they will not work with you. This is only one week to decide if you want to stay at a place that's getting rid of the pool and it's increasing the rent at the same time. After asking very politely if I could get a couple more weeks to decide because I am expecting to move to Miami pretty soon, and I am waiting on a timeline, I was told that "tenants are responsible for making their decisions on a timely manner."
I am very dissapointed in this apartment complex, and would not recommend it.

As the manager, we are sorry that this resident has not had an overall positive experience. The fact that we are eliminating the pool came up suddenly after we discovered it was severely damaged over the winter and beyond repair. We notified the residents immediately after we researched our options and made the difficult decision to not rebuild it. The lease was signed almost a year ago, and she knew it was a one year lease. We are one of the ONLY local communities that offer a month-to-month option after the first year for a small fee. She has had about 10 months to decide if she wants to renew or move, and we are simply following the clearly stated terms defined in the lease agreement. We can be very accomodating in many ways, but not when it comes to changing an existing lease agreement. It seems to us that real issue here is not the pool, but that we won't change the terms of the existing lease to accomodate her pending moving plans. Please read the other ratings for honest and unbiased testimonials from dozens of very satisified residents. |

Landlord: As you are fully aware, a lease, as with any legal document, is a flexible, negotiable, instrument. There is no law or legal precedent preventing both parties from re-negotiating any such document amiably and in good faith. It is unfortunate that people in general, much less landlords, take advantage of the uninformed. If I were a landlord, and had a troublesome or irate tenant, I would do everything in my power to fix the problem or to release the tenant from the contract, if only to be rid of him/her. Better to resolve a problem quickly than to make the situation worse by allowing it to fester. Granted, you can't please everyone, but your response to her complaint was foolish and invalid (who cares about the pool?), and makes her argument the more believable to the casual observer, who will think less of your establishment. Was it worth it not to re-negotiate or outright cancel the lease?
