Old community. Assume lead-based paint due to pre-1978 construction. Peeling, chipping paint, and, presumably, lead dust, is unavoidable. Paint chips would come off the closet door tracks when we opened and closed the closet doors.

We had to put a bath mat in the tub because the enamel was chipped so badly that we were afraid we would cut our feet.

The windows are the flimsiest I've ever seen, and the draft is unbelievable. Some tenants seal them with plastic - not to save money or energy, because heat was included in rent - but because they were so cold. Disadvantage of sealing - there's no good way to seal the windows that permits opening them during a break in the weather or when a room simply needs some fresh air.

Beware the baseboard heaters, which are your only heating source. Don't put your furniture right up against them (tough when the baseboard heaters run along the walls where you want to place your bed!).

Plumbing repairs are made with solder, probably containing toxic metals such as antimony or lead. We had to clean up lots of solder splatter after a repair on the kitchen sink plumbing.

Don't take a basement unit. The pipes that take liquids away from the buildings often get clogged, either by, say grease poured down someone's drain, or even tree roots growing through the pipes. Basement units have had these pipes back up and produce a flow into the unit.

The pool becomes filled with goose droppings in the off-season.

Tenants leave cigarette butts everywhere, and no one picks them up.

Washers and dryers were left unrepaired for weeks, leaving tenants to take their laundry to other buildings.

We had to open our fridge door in order to open the dishwasher b/c mgmt installed the wrong size fridge.

We had other complaints, but those were solely attributable to Korman, which sold the property to the new management co. (Fairfield').
