A fantastic place to live ... until you move out

Except for a few minor things, this place was great. Very nice apartments, though rent is raised every year. Maintenance was good about fixing everything except our shower wall, which they never got around to. There was a leak behind it, and the wall was swelling and getting mildewy. The apartments are fairly soundproof, unless you've got a neighbor blasting music. Grounds are kept very nicely, but parking can get tight, especially during snowstorms or summers. The low point of our stay here was checkout, when some nasty older woman I hadn't met before came to look over the place. She tried to charge us for every conceivable thing. A little bit of some liquid spilled inside a kitchen cupboard, and there was a small stain on the counter too, and she wanted to have ALL the counters and cupboards replaced at our cost! She also wanted to charge us for the shower wall, saying the mildew was dirt. And a cleaning fee for dust left on the central air vents! We got her to call a maintenance man, who said replacing the kitchen cabinetry wasn't necessary, and that the mildewy, swollen wall wasn't our fault. He also looked up how old the carpet was so we weren't billed for it, since it wasn't new when we moved in. They don't seem to understand the concept of regular wear and tear. Check every little thing when you move in, because you can be sure that woman will try to charge you for it when you move out. The electricity bills (PPL) were also outrageous, at a high of $220 one month in the winter! Around $120 in the summer. And the Service Electric cable TV is nothing to be thrilled over, but they charge a lot and have a monopoly on the complex, so forget going to a competitor. Pool was nice, but fitness room equipment wasn't that hot. All the neighbors were very nice. Saw no evidence of racism like another reviewer said, and I'm a woman of color. Big fee for breaking the lease to move for a job. People in the area also tend to complain about the occasional noise from airplanes, but I'm from NYC and barely noticed it. If you're going to live near an airport, don't gripe. Overall, a good experience.
