Years at this apartment: 2008-01-01 - 2009-01-01
The wife and I (and our baby) are moving out at the end of this month.
It wasn't a bad experience to be honest, though i won't question anyone else's experience as this is my third Philly apartment and they tend to be not so fun...
sometimes you just luck out and get a good room when someone else in your building is dealing with a holy $#*! storm day in and day out, and for that I can sympathize because I've been on that end.
The only major qualm I have is the location, its not exactly ideal for going for walks.
You're kind of stuck on the grounds unless you have a car (we share one).
Its right off a pretty busy highway (309) and Easton Road, so you're kind of surrounded by fast-moving traffic.
We're moving to a place where you can actually walk around and I'm pretty excited to see grass and trees.
The other little qualms are that it seems to take maintenance quite a while to respond to issues you have (dishwasher broken/dryer squealing) so that kind of stinks.
We never had any of the "ghetto" problems some people speak of, never really felt threatened or scared on the grounds.
We did have a small dog for a while, which was quite an inconvenience as some of the door guys and lots of the old residents really seemed to make a big deal of it.
Some of them old ladies get pretty rude and don't give a care about speaking their minds.
There were a few young punks with attitudes in there (we were building 1 by the way), but for the most part no tenants gave us any problems at all.
I wouldn't feel safe walking around the surrounding area with my wife and baby, with the traffic and ugly area being what it is.
I am certainly not saying its a "ghetto" issue, just more so its not exactly a walk in the park with grass and lights.
You kind of expect when you pay that much rent you won't ever have to worry about safety or those kinds of issues.
Oh yes, and the place seems well built but the walls seem rather thin, if someone is blasting music or the tube at 11:00 at night you will certainly hear it, we did have pretty noisy neighbours for a while.
The doormen I never had a problem with, except for that old grumpy white guy that joined the force.
He was a little over the top, though he saw me many days he'd still do things like make me go upstairs if I forgot my little slip telling me I had a package and bring it back down.
I mean, come on! The others were great, extremely nice and polite and I have nothing bad to say about them.
Same for the valet guy, a real nice cat.
Parking was all right, they gave us an underground spot as part of our move in deal so I can't complain about that.
The lady we had help us move in was phenomenal, but unfortunately quit only a couple weeks after we moved in.
She stayed very late one night when we were desperate for a place to live, said she just had that gut feeling that she had to help us, and we'll remember that for a long time.
Thats all I guess, in hindsight I have more bad to say than I thought, but overall, I feel satisfied with my year there.
I was in Upsall Gardens before, and compared to what I dealt with there, this place was like living in frigging Neverland with the Lost Boys.
I'm going to say that yes I would recommend this place, but that is because of my good experience, and can totally understand why others wouldn't.
As I said, I went through that with upsall gardens, we knew someone who had a great place there.
