Not the Greatest But Ok for Temporary Stay

I have lived in Parkview for just over a year, never intending to stay very long. It was ok to start. Not much going on. It was very quiet but I did have the building to myself for a little while. Being on the ground floor is a pain. I highly recommend a top floor apartment. You'd think there were elephants playing soccer above your head. There haven't been any break-in's in my building that I know of but there was a chick fight in my hallway and someone else s car windows got busted out by a disgruntled ex. I did see a few mice in the fall/winter and the exterminators didn't really help. I got a kitten and he got the job done on the first night. Haven't seen any since. Bugs can be an issue. No roaches (Thank GOD!) but woodsy bugs like crickets, millipedes, and roly-poly s. Spiders too but if you know what s good, you'd be more concerned about the other things. Spiders eat the other (BIGGER) bugs so they're ok. Parking if free but there's not plenty of it, especially when people take up good spots with busted up auction vehicles on flat tires. Oh and be prepared for the Ice Capades in the winter... the entire parking lot becomes a skating rink staring you, your neighbors, and your car. Snow clearance is virtually non-existant.
Lighting in the complex is bad and there are plenty of blind curves and huge dumpsters to obscure your view. People do drive to fast and there needs to be 4-way stop signs at many intersections.
When I first moved in, I was under the impression there was an intercom system but I was sadly mistaken, so unless your guests have a cell phone and can call you to let you know they are at your place, be prepared to have people yelling for you and your neighbors at all hours of the day and night, not to mention the horn honking at 3am. Then again, there's the front and back entrance to every building and one of the two doors (if not both) is always broken. I think i've had two visits so far this year from two guys asking "If I know Jesus."
Also, I didn't realize all the bathrooms are done in pink tile... I Hate PINK! What makes it worse though is that not long after moving in, the paint (YES PAINT!) started pealing from the bathtub so there are huge gouges of discoloration where the paint has come off and clogged up the drain.
Lately I have to time my showers so that no one else in the building is taking one too, that way I can have a little hot water with my cold water and/or a little cold water with my hot water. If not, then the temperature usually ranges from Artic Freeze to Melt-Your-Flesh and no amount of turning the knobs will help.
The laundry facility is a joke. I guess no one was using the washers and dryers so they lowered the price to $1. It's not the price that was the problem, it's the equipment. Washers and dryers are to small and they don't work properly. You want to wash your whites in hot water not cold water and your colors in cold not hot. Dyers don't heat up at all. If there are 4-5 apartments per unit, about 5 units per building, and presumably 1-2 people per apartment, that's at least 50 per building. Why are there only two broken down washers and two broken down dryers in the building'!'!' I faithfully take my laundry to the laundromat.
The gas bill is ridiculous. Always different and from some no-name gas company that doesn t really give you detailed information on your usage on a comparative scale, just documents what you pay and when, and even for this you have to find their website online and register. When I first moved in my gas bill was about $35 per month. Now it's about $68 per month and the most i've paid is $125 (in the winter). My suggestion for winter is a electric space heater. Pay PECO, not No-Name Gas Co.
On the plus side, i'd say if you just need a toilet that flushes and closet space, you're in the right place. I live on the ground floor and in all the bad weather we've had, my apartment has never been flooded. Power outages happen when bad weather happens. There is a heavy police presence in the area, not because something bad is or has happened but because it's generally a good neighborhood and they want to keep it that way.
Again, I ve been there just over a year and am looking to move soon so...

My husband and I lived in Parkview for a number of years and moved two and a half years ago. The letter that I wrote to the management company to terminate my lease included feedback similiar to this review. Although it is disheartening to see that nothing has changed, I am not surprised as they have no regard for the residents. At any rate, the best thing about living in Parkview was the relatively affordable rent which allowed us to pay off debt, and move into the house of our dreams. If you can tough it out, I hope this inspires someone else to do the same!

About the gas, I think that it is riduclous that they make you split your bill with everyone in the building. when i stayed there i never turned on my heat in the winter, and yet I continually had to pay 60 dollars for heat I never used.

Okay. I just moved in Parkview sometime in June 07 and haven't really experienced some of the things mentioned about; however, I did have to put management on notice about loud televisions and music during 'normal' sleeping hours; I guess everybody's 'normal' is different. Nevertheless, I wrote a letter and the problem has been resolved thus far. I belieive that some residents in my building deliberately make noise to distrub you; they probably have major interpersonal issues that require psychological help. I was told that you could not have pets, so tell me why do I here dogs barking, crying and scratching? I got rid of my pets prior to moving in. Other than these few issues, my stay thus far has been okay. I look forward to seeing those gas bills though. If they are extremely high, I will surely go to battle for what is fair and right. And, trust me, I know how to battle landlords. I've been doing for a while now. So, hopefully, this experience will be pleasant. Like most of the post I've read, this is no way a permanent place for me. Does anyone know if Parkview excepts Section 8 or subsidzed applicants? If they do, I am sorry to say, get ready for all kinds of living conditions and a very tumultuous environment. Am I stero-typing, well you be the judge, or matter of fact, let the facts speak for themselves.

I live in Parkview Court now and I desperately want to move out. Yes, there are many break-ins which are done by maintanence or other staff memebers of Parkview. The office staff is rude and don't give a ---- about anything but the rent money. If it is even a day late, you are given a late fee of $40 and if it is more than 5 days late, you receive a $100 court cost fee. It is rediculous!!!! I want to move so bad, thinking about breaking the lease and moving out. My lease is up in August. I want to move NOW!!! I have just started seeing mouse droppings in my kitchen. Coming from the nasty africans next door. This place is the pits. My mom lives in public housing in Philadelphia and yet she gets better treatment than I do and she pays a lot less with a brand new 3 br house. I'd rather live in public housing. The property manager Ted Hicks is a RACIST!!! He doesn't give a ---- about us black people. He is a horrible manager. Parkview needs new management BAD!!! I plan to start a petetion very soon and send it to Ohio. I want to get as many people as I can to help get rid of management. Do not move here please!!!! You'll regret it!!!
