I've been on the list for about 7 years. 1st time I got booted off. The office said I didnt respond to a letter I never recieved. Then I got on the list again. RI Housing doesnt seem to care who's in the office. The girl on one side that left took bribes to allow select persons to be in first on the list. She left. I need the apartment because Im not diagnosed but too sick to work full time. As a manager myself. I can barely afford a regular apartment and roommates are my only option and a pain. Noone seems dependable.
With knowing people at the Green. The drug trafficking,rusty water, fighting, break ins. pipes bursting and destroying property of tenants is not my idea of a great environment.
On the other hand. As an ex native New Yorker. It doesnt intimidate me. And since I dont have small children, and keep to myself. My only goal to moving in is to cut my work hours, and start an online business so I can better my quality of life and move the hell out of there once my goals are accomplished. After all isnt that what subsidized housing is about, and not just a free ride to party night and day.
Corruption seems to rule out that option. Although there have been raids to clean out drug trafficking in the past year. It is a shame that someone like me that has a goal and no intention on remaining there. But to use it as an oppertunity to get ahead and then move on can't utilze what these places should be designed for.
