I heard a similar situation, getting ripped off of $150 dollars. It is in the contract but they don't tell you that it is non-refundable if you don't rent with them...

Big real estate company in RI owns the apartment complex. I guess the state of RI does not want to challenge them.

This sound like a pretty unethical way of doing business.
