My wife and I lived in two different University Heights apartments during the two years that we lived there. For the first year we lived in an older unit and had pretty much no major complaints. We were then asked to move across the parking lot (the moving company was paid for by the management) to a newly refurbished unit. That's when the trouble began. Our outdoor patio set was stolen and found destroyed throughout the community, a gallon of paint was splashed across our windows, I spotted several people urinating on our patio, children would constantly be looking in through our windows in warmer weather and yelling obscenities, my car was broken into twice, and our stove had a gas leak because it had not been hooked up properly. That being said, the renovated apartments ARE very nice. There's a washer and dryer in the unit which is incredibly convenient and the kitchen appliances are decent. Our complaints are with the neighborhood, the children who run wild, and the inept security. I will recommend the apartments themselves, but be aware of where the apartments ARE.

I currently live in University Heights, and have lived here for just about a year.
My overall take on the new apartments is that they are nice, however they seemed a bit rushed. My windows didn't have screens in them (and still don't), the ventilation fan in the bathroom was never installed, and the dishwasher kept leaking. On the positive side of things, I live on the 3rd floor, and the view is quite nice. The new carpets, paint, appliances, etc. are very nice and make the apartment feel clean and new.
I would completely agree with the community though, when I first moved in there were a lot of people outside with an overall atmosphere of trouble. One specific example was, when I came home from work I would see three people with patio chairs sitting on the sidewalk by the parking lot with a bookbag and a cooler. A random car would pull up, one of them with take the bookbag lean into the car for a few minutes, and the car would drive away. I saw that happen on multiple occasions. Call me stereotypical, but I what I saw was a drug deal. The children in the neighborhood are loud and obnoxious, they scream obscenities and play music very loudly for most of the night. The overall atmosphere here is touchy at best, many people seem to get away with a lot with minimal interference from security or police.
All in All, considering it is Providence and there are worse neighborhoods out there I am fairly happy here. The apartments are very nice, and the area for what its worth is also nice. Before moving in I would make peace with the fact that it is pricey (1250 for a 2 bedroom) and the community here is rough at best.
