Pluses and Minuses

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2006
The location makes any problems very easy to tolerate. You can't not enjoy walking to several restaurants, Starbucks, grocery store, CVS and shops. The building itself is very nice, with lots of antique touches. Apartments are generous in size and are beautiful with moldings and hardwoods. Bathrooms and kitchens vary and tend to be older but highly functional - most have dishwashers. There is a small gym downstairs which is very useful and the building has someone onsight to accept packages and welcome guests at all hours. Though they vary by personality, they get things done - Virgina the night conceirge is wonderful. The only warning I have is check the apartment before you rent - where will the bed be' The steam radiators are LOUD and will keep you up unless you have a big enough bedroom or can put the bed far away from the wall where the pipes are. Maintanence is variable - one is hard working and covers for the rest, but you will have to nag at times and be firm. Parking is a big problem - you will be given one spot, but it isn't assigned unless you've lived in the building for years and made it up the waiting list. Visitors get NO parking and have to brave street parking (no overnight parking in the city) or use a paid lot two blocks away. The property manager works limited hours, and is brusque at first, but if you are sugary sweet you'll get what you need from her. Laundry in the basement - 3 washers, 4 dryers for 100 units, and quarter operated. Rent does go up yearly - about 25-50 dollars. But, all utilities are included which makes it reasonable even still.
