I have lived in this apartment for about 5 months. Since the first month I have wanted to move. From the horrible conditions of the apartments to the people, it has made me rather live in a card board box. I will start from the beginning. The first week of living here, our roof started to leak, Bonnie stated in sheer shock, "This has never happened before. We'll fix it right away." That was July '04. In December '04 it was finally fixed (by a guy who was raving about how much he hated Cowesett and how crappy everything was. He slapped putty over the holes and left. The problem has since returned.) Our light fixtures started to spark due to the water damage. Our windows froze shut due to the sheer cold in the apartment. Because of the water build up, I now have to treat mold that has grown on our windows (with bleach, but it still comes back). The mold ruined all of my curtins (because it grew on them and I could not get it out). The noise is ridiculous. I have called the rent office a billion times about this, but I get no help. Our car was broken into in the first months of us living here and then a day after Christmas - STOLEN!!! When I first moved in, after signing a year lease, all fell apart. I am not from around here, so I had not heard of Southpoint. All I saw was it was close to town, but far enough away to where it would be quiet. It is in a nice area, surrounded by homes and a couple farms, and when we were told of all the wonderful things Southpoint had to offer, like fines for noise pollution. We were also told of the safety and the "family atmosphere" that is promoted here. After putting three names on a year lease, one of my roomates had to move because she could not take the roaches and mice.(when I told the rent office about this, the lady said to me I was lying because were lived on the 3rd floor and mice can't get up there! Also, she said that we could not have roaches because the apartment was treated. It was not treated and the day it was suppose to be, we packed our stuff and covered our belongings and took all of our food out of the cabinents like we were told and nobody showed up, but had written down that they had.) So if you are looking for leaky ceilings, molded and frosty windows, hallways that smell like piss because the neighbors had a party and their friends decided that waiting for the bathroom was too hard, stolen and damaged property, lights that smell like something is burning and flicker like strobes, noise and music that is powerful enough to knock cups off of your tables, and lack of respect from the people who you are paying $1130 a month sounds good to you....come on down... Cowesett is just fine. I swear to these statements. I actually have so much more to tell. It seems everyday more is piled on and nothing eliviated. Please don't move here especially if you have children. It is a hazard and the emotional stress that will be placed on you will be more then a thousand people can stand. I am being milked of all of my hard earned cash to live in this place. I have tried to get out of the lease, but it is a legal binding and I have not been successful. I have a lawyer on the case now, and believe me, it is not cheap. This has been shear hell for me and my one lasting roomate.(which he is looking for a new place too....so I am going to be the only person there. The lease goes all on the head of the person who is left. If you break it, you still have to pay for the rent you missed. So, if I move out now and so does he, 7x's $1130.00 is what I wouldn't afford td owe.) Also, other landlords have asked me why I live there and have said that they rarely rent to people from Cowesett because they had been nothing but trouble. DON'T HERE!!!
