Modern, pet friendly, very noisy, limited hot water, bedbugs

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008
This review is based on a six-month stay. My company picked this apartment as the only higher-end place in the area that would take dogs. We were on the second of three floors.
The apartments are modern, less than ten years old I believe. Nice little pool and clubhouse. They take pets, including larger dogs (e.g., greyhound, german shepherd), and there's no convenient off-grounds place to walk a dog. So there are lots of dogs around. Some seemed to bark a lot.
We found the sound insulation to be very poor. We could hear every move our upstairs neighbors made...they had three young boys who would often jump and run all day in the apartment except for meal breaks, noisy beyond belief. Management was unable to cause any change. We also could hear our neighbors talking on the other side of the bedroom wall, although not well enough to know what they were talking about.
The heat for the apartments runs off the hot water heater, not a separate furnace. Per maintenance, the hot water temperature must be kept at a moderate level, so it was never quite hot enough for me. The air conditioning worked great.
Our apartment had bedbugs when we moved in. Management would not believe it until I stayed up and caught a bunch of them for evidence. Management stated this was a first for the complex, the exterminator they sent said otherwise, but in fairness we did not hear any bedbug stories from our neighbors...only that the previous tenants had been very messy. The exterminator sprayed what turned out to be some pretty nasty stuff around but did not eliminate the bedbugs. We finally wiped them out at our own expense using nontoxic, natural bedbug treatments. And ended up having to trash all our mattresses and bedding.
We found the maintenance folks to be excellent and polite. Grass mowed, snow shoveled, repair needs in the apartments addressed quickly. Management was sometimes slow to respond and a mix of polite and impolite.
We got most of our security deposit back, with a couple hundred dollars deducted for carpet replacement. The apartment, including carpet, was in the same condition as when we moved in, so I'm not sure what that was about.
