My husband & I were going to rent here - even got services turned on in our names, etc. I was underwhelmed with the condition of the apartment - older cabinets, carpets were not well cleaned, bullet hold in the window(!) but I had faith in the great reviews I saw on this site and was willing to overlook those things. On the day of the move, we knew we were going to be arriving in Aiken after hours, so we called the office who assured us that they would leave the key to the apartment under the mat for us so we could move right in. After 8 hours of driving, we were looking forward to moving our furniture in and resting. When we went to look for the key, it wasn't there. We looked all around the apartment doors, windows, even the mailboxes up front & still found nothing. When we called the answering service, we were told that someone would call us right back. TWO HOURS LATER, we finally got a call. By that time, we had checked into a motel, thoroughly disgusted. We ended up canceling the lease agreement and finding a much nicer place, but it cost us an additional $150 in hotel costs and several days of extreme stress and aggravation as we scrambled to find a suitable place. The office staff finally got prompt about returning our calls after we left a message saying we were canceling the lease. They claimed that the groundskeeper must have found the key and taken it. I'm sure he spends his time looking under floormats just in case someone hid a key there. To their credit, they were very apologetic and wanted to make things right, but by that time it was too little, too late. I'm very glad that this fell through though, as the place we have now is great. I wonder about their customer service, though, if this is how they treat people that haven't even moved in yet.
