The longer I lived there, the worse things got

Pros:
- Competetive pricing. Most packages include power (sort of), cable, internet, and water with your rent. Furniture packages are available if you require something like that.
- CAT Bus route stops at UV
- Maintenance is quick to respond, but they don't always do the best work.

Cons:
- Safety. You can not count on your stuff in your apartment being safe at any time. My apartment was robbed twice over the span of two months. During holiday breaks there are tons of break-ins. My back door was kicked in on Christmas Eve and $1000 worth of stuff was stolen. University Village does nothing on their own to provide security. They rely entirely on the small local police department to protect their properties and that just doesn't work. The Central PD is very helpful and tries as hard as they can, but they simply don't have the manpower.
- Parking is not sufficient in many places. The parking lot is mostly full every night after about 7:00. In particular on Friday and Saturday nights when people are having parties, it may be impossible to find a parking spot anywhere near your own apartment. Also, people tend to drive very fast around the lot which causes a lot of incidents. People also will often park illegally. In one case someone illegally parked behind me making it impossible for me to move my car.
- Internet access is atrocious. This is something I've complained about a lot to the staff. They will quite often do "upgrades" on the system, but these do nothing to significantly improve the system. They also recently changed service providers from Pavlov Media to Northland Cable, but Northland Cable's service has actually been worse in my opinion. Any sort of online gaming is impossible. Quite often things are too slow for even basic internet access though.
- The grounds are very poorly maintained. Dog poo is literally everywhere, even in the middle of the sidewalk on some occasions. Trash is also scattered all about. The staff often makes threats about fining people that are trashing things up or not cleaning up after their pets, but those threats have done nothing to improve the state of the grounds.
- The staff is usually nice, but they are quite incompetent and don't seem to genuinely care about their tenants. They might tell you that they'll do something to improve safety, internet access, etc., but then they'll proceed to do nothing. Frankly, I don't care about pool parties or trivia nights. I would prefer for them to spend that money on improving my living conditions.
- The construction of the units is very poor. It is quite obvious that the materials and workmanship were secondary to just getting these units built as quickly as possible.
- Noise is an issue at times. A lot of parties. Anything going on outside can easily be heard in your apartment. Walls are very thin. I've gotten noise complaints even when listening to music at a pretty low volume.

I was thinking about renting there but this sounds like a sound problem and possibly drug-related breakins with reckless driving in the parking lot possibly done by friends of some tenants. They need a go-between arbitrator-type person there it seems between the management which is outnumbered by the wilder tenants...
