I lived at Ashley Knoll for two years. At first, I enjoyed my stay. Then, the management changed and the front half of the complex went condo. The rest of the complex (for us peons who were still renting) went way downhill. I had a woman fighting with her boyfriend every night upstairs and music downstairs that was so loud it shook my floor. Repeated complaints to the leasing office were ignored.

The gate used to never work, and now they have a crappy system where you have to have a card key to get in; there's no code. This is a real pain when the pizza guy can't find the number to call the right resident and calls you instead, which happened a number of times. And if you lose your entry card or want an extra, there's a $50 fee.

The dumpster is often overflowing with trash, and the pool in the back needs to be cleaned more often. In addition, if you live in the back, be aware that the leasing office is currently in that area of the complex while the office is being remodeled. Why would you care' Because the office folks take up a number of parking spaces with their personal cars and their stupid go-carts, so you might have to park a bit far from your apartment.

If you're thinking about buying a condo there, I'd warn you not to. They're outrageously expensive for what you get. The walls are just as paper thin as in the rentals. It's not close enough to the beach or downtown to warrant the price. There's no view unless you like looking at the run-down shacks on the neighboring streets. And speaking of the neighborhood, if you do move to Ashley Knoll, avoid the crack-head Hess station down the street after dark.

On the up-side, maintenance has always been terrific. I've never had to wait more than 24 hours for repairs, and usually things were fixed the same day I reported them.
