I would not recommend living in the Islands apartments to even my worst enemy. It is the worst run complex that I have ever encountered in my 4 years as an apartment renter. The office staff is the worst part about it. There is a complete lack of communication within the leasing office and not one of the agents will give you a straight answer when it comes to policy. They are rude and extremely unhelpful. Before I moved to the complex, they called to let me know that they had an apartment available for me only to call me back a day or so later to explain that they in fact did not. There were no apologies or any responsibility taken by the staff for this inconvenience until my roommate and I had to get our parents involved. My entire apartment was infested with ants. The walls are extremely thin as well. My upstairs room did not have any air circulation either for the duration of my one year lease. Which by the way, does not mean a 1 year lease. If you do not notify the apartment complex about your intent to move out on the day your lease runs out, you will get stuck paying for another months rent - and not the rent that you were previously paying, you have to pay the rent for what they are charging at that time which, by the way, is entirely too high for what you get. I have no clue if I will get my deposit back or anything, let's just say I'm not holding my breath. The only positive thing I have to say about the property is the promptness of the maintenance staff. I will definately not step foot on this property ever again - I shudder just thinking about it.

Is this for real? You usually have to notify anywhere that you rent from at least 30-60 days if you intend to leave. How is that the Islands fault? And you live in Charleston, rent in high and you pay for your location. Duh.

I think the notification does not even touch on the summary of this letter. It's the freakin RUDE office staff!!! 'DUH'
I once called them to get the lock combo for the equipment room (if you can call it that). The lady was by far one of the rudest people I've talked to over the phone. And I'm on the phone all day. Just inconsiderate - staff thinks they are above their tenants, best of luck communicating anything to them.

Dear Residents:
I appreciate your frustration with the situation on having to change apartments. When someone gives a 30 day notice to vacate their apartment per the lease agreement, we put it on the market to offer to new residents. If a situation comes up where the resident can not move out on time, we try to accomodate them as much as possible, which may mean having to switch the prospective resident to a comparable unit in another location. We would do the same for any current resident, including you. I am sorry if you felt we were rude in any way, but sometimes the policies we have to enforce are not favored by our residents.
To Dino, We certainly did not mean to be rude to you, but when we have had instances of misuse of the facilites, codes have had to be changed. When this happens it is important for us to be careful and log who we give the new codes to so that only our current residents are able to use the facilities.
Please contact me if there is anything I can do to make your stay and your home more comfortable. I am glad you are here and appreciate your comments.
