My husband and I are fairly new residents in the Charleston area and after fulfilling our first lease (at a decent apt community but didn't know all of our options in the area at the time) we moved to the Islands on James Island. I thought I really wanted to be on James Island and the Islands were talked up very much to us. We were all excited about moving there and when we got there to start moving in our place was disgusting! I refused to take it. They changed out the flooring for us but that still didn't solve the ever going problem of ants and roaches that we have. I have to have our place sprayed all the time and the office people really don't seem to give two sh*ts that we are having problems. All my light fixtures are practically all rusted out. We have gave up on calling the maintenance as they are rude to us and to our dog (that's like my kid, don't be mean to him when he's not doing anything). Our air conditioner was having problems and it took 3 hours for someone to get there that when we called they said it would be 30-45 minutes max. They showed up at 11pm!!!! on a worknight, I was highly peeved and made my husband deal with them so I didn't go off on them. We can hear everything our neighbors do, and we have had multiple neighbors in a short time. Seems to have a big turn around, we've had 3 different neighbors break there lease and just up and move out because they were so unhappy here. The landscapers are horrible! It's always messy and they don't care about blowing dust and grass into our back door if I have the screen open and all over our cars. Our lease is soon up and it can't come soon enough. I regret moving here so much. There rents are way to high for what they actually offer. The office staff could most certainly stand for improvements!!!

Dear Anonymous, I am sorry you have not had an enjoyable experience here at The Islands and I would like the opportunity to address these issues with you. 1. When apartments are vacated the carpet is not always replaced if it is in fair condition. However, if there are stains or odors that come back after a professional cleaning, we are more than willing to do what it takes to make the situation right, which is probably why we replaced your carpet. 2. As for pest control, if you have a problem our pest control company comes every Monday and we are more than happy to put your apartment on the list. If it is problem that is reported several times for some reason, if it is addressed with me, I ensure that the supervisor comes to take care of the problem. If it is a problem with fleas, which are common in this region during the spring and summer, this does take more effort, especially if you have a pet. 3. If there are fixtures in your apartment that you are unhappy with I am sure that we can have them repaired or replaced. 4. When you have an emergency, such as a problem with your air conditioning, maintenance is called by pager. When they receive the call, they try to get out as soon as possible so that they can repair the problem promptly. A 3 hour time frame is not unreasonable and I trust that they had it working for you shortly after, so that you would not have to spend the night with no air. If there is anything that I can do to assist you or help improve your opinion of our community please let me know.
