has its limitations

We moved into these apartments last month. Yes, they are old. The "hardwood" floors aren't wood or anything natural, and that fact was never alluded to during the viewing. At best, it's heavy duty laminate. There isn't a workout facility, pool, tennis court, playground, etc. The front office is a bit moody and won't return phone calls. But, maintenance is prompt when you have a problem, and you have to go through the office to request any work. So, at least the office staff are doing their jobs even if it's not always with a smile.

The upstairs is at least 10 degrees warmer in the summer than downstairs b/c of the poor ventilation system...you have floor vents upstairs. We leave the bedroom doors open to get cooler air circulating. Very dog-friendly, but don't expect everyone to clean up after their pets. Your own front yard/common space is a field of poop. I called the office about this issue, but no one returned my call to address it. I can't let my child run around in the yard b/c of it. Even my own dog is offended by the quantity of turds on her walk.

However, you have two of your very own parking spaces right behind your partment!!! I think this is a nice little bonus to be 5 or so steps away from your front door. The layout of the subdivision is good with cul-de-sacs at the end of each road. I rarely hear my neighbors. I don't have anyone living above or below me. Each unit has its own washer/dryer connection. We rented a washer/dryer from a local appliance warehouse for $15/month. If a washer/dryer were included in the rent, you'd be paying much more than $15 for it. We are renting one of the "classic" homes (i.e. an unrenovated home) for $699. That's unheard of for this area, especially since these are approximately 1200 sq ft. The renovated homes are $849 or so. Our apartment has a new frige and dishwasher. They tried to upgrade a bit by spray painting the cabinets in the kitchen and baths. But, the wear on this home is apparent.

For me, what we're getting for the price and location (EASY access to I-26 and close to every shopping center and mall) beat everyone else we looked at around here.
