This 'Palmetto Bugs' as the (actually impressively professional) management so kindly describes them, are actually giant cockroaches -- no kidding. I'm from NYC, where cockroaches are more than common. But the roaches up there at least FIT inside a roach hotel. These roaches are 3 to 4 times the size and are everywhere - especially around the pool at night, where you can spot 50-100 at a time. (Seriously -- it's actually hard to walk without accidentally squishing one, because they run around like 'StarShip Trooper' aliens-bugs.) But at least 4 or 5 times a month, they'll enter your apartment thru the AC vents or partially-opened doors (or toilet''). They're disgusting and despite the handy work of an exterminator who comes monthly, they're EVERYWHERE.

I don't understand why such a posh complex can't exterminate the problem once and for all. Their excuse' "It's South Carolina, what do you expect -- we have bugs here." Well to that I say, "I've lived in Miami and in Jacksonville, FL -- which is much more tropical -- and have NEVER seen a rampant infestation like this." I think in FL they have something called "insecticide."

Probably the reason for so many bugs' WalMart happens to be about 1/4 mile down the road, and they're attracted to 'cheap.' Who can blame them' Lots of roaches hang out there.

Ugg, get me outta here--

But the problem is bigger: Columbia. Enough said. 42 Magnolia probably IS the best apartment complex to live in this stifling place. Just bring a double-duty bottle of RAID.

I too lived in FL and "palmetto bugs" could really give a flip about palmettos. They prefer pine trees and the trees that are as sappy as a Clark Gable movie. Therefore, you can't compare the two states on this matter. It is indeed, South Carolina -- and all those trees! Go back to NY with your wimpy roaches! HA HA! ;-)

Ditto the other person's response. If you don't like it here, GO BACK.

The poster is right. South Carolina is full of BIG ROACHES and they are so proud of those bugs and get mad if you bring them up. "Its our state bug." is what some say...YUCK!
