Limited Visitor Parking - Don't Live Here if you Plan on Having Guests

Broad River Trace tows any visitor not parked in a spot designated for visitors. The problem with this is that there are often few visitor spots available. Resident parking is extremely limited in the front part of the apartment complex, so the office staff allows residents to park extra cars and their boats and trailers in the visitor parking spots. One weekend upon returning to Broad River Trace, we couldn't find a visitor spot available close to my apartment. I told my guest to just park in a resident's spot because there was ample parking for residents in the back of the apartment complex where I lived (40 or more vacant resident spots every night). I wrongly assumed that the towing company would use some discretion in towing vehicles because it's not like 40 new residents were going to show up after midnight to take these spots. My guest's car was towed though, and it cost 85 bucks to get his car back. The landlord told me that there was probably a visitor's spot located way up in the front of the complex. However, there are only about 15 visitor spots in the front, and the majority of these spots are used by residents to park their extra car. I told the landlord that my guests shouldn't have to park their cars that far away from my apartment, to which she replied that Broad River Trace didn't promise visitor parking near your apartment. That would have been nice to have known before I moved in!!! I wouldn't recommend moving here unless you want the possiblity of having to ask your guests to ride around the apartment complex for 10 minutes to find a vacant spot and then hike across the complex to your apartment. Broad River Trace actually promotes itself as a luxury apartment complex, but their parking situation is no luxury. If you are a USC student thinking about living here because it's close to USC, I would reconsider. You can pay the same amount to rent a newer apartment in the Harbison, Lexington, Northeast areas where they have ample parking for residents and visitors alike. It's a little longer drive to USC, but it's worth it if you plan on having guests over to your apartment. There are more restaurants in those other areas, and they are much safer. We were actually told at Broad River Trace not to walk around at night because we might get mugged, etc. (Yet the office staff didn't mind if visitors had to walk all the way across the apartment complex late at night. Define irony.)

I agree about the parking. I was visiting a friend in the 700 building. I was towed that night. I arrived around 9, nowhere to park. However, there were several spots available in the resident section. I parked there, not knowing the policy, and I was not concerned, because there was a police car near me in front of a fire hydrant, and another older car beside me without a sticker. I came out, and was towed. On top of that, when I went to go get my car, I found they had broken the center console. I tried to pay with a check, and was told "cash only", forcing me to take a trip to an ATM. When I arrived to finally pay for my car, I was met at the door by a lady ( I assume the owners wife). She blocked us from entering the building. I asked for a receipt, and was told they do not give receipts. I was extemely worried that they wuold re-tow my car, and i would have no way to confirm my payment. I also noticed that they had some new cars on the lot, but not the older ones. My guess - they tow the ones they know will get paid, and not chance the others. I complained to the managers at BRT, and a few days later, I was told that the gentleman who towed my car rememered me and my car, and he was "offended" at my remarks, and would keep an eye out for me. Needless to say, I left my car elsewhere, and my friend moved out soon after that.
