My husband and I moved to Columbia from New Jersey and rented at Columbiana Lakes. The complex has all the amenities for a decent price. It?s one of the more expensive complexes in the area but moving from New Jersey it was a bargain. A first floor - 2 bedroom 2 bath w/ Fireplace unit was $710/month. Grounds were kept very nice and maintenance crews were speedy. The swimming pool is nice but we never took advantage of it. There is a small pond on the site which has fabulous walking trails. Complex permits dogs and we had two who loved the trails and the pond. There was ample boat parking which we needed and car parking. We found the car wash on the premises to be a great benefit. There was a waiting list to rent a garage but we opted to share one with a neighbor for storage thus splitting the rent. You can?t be the location in Harbison. Columbiana Center Mall is just seconds away along with many good restaurants and bars. The convenience to the Harbison shopping district can?t be beat. However, traffic during Xmas is unbearable with all the shoppers. Commute to downtown Columbia is roughly 30 minutes (15 miles) at peak time. Unit has washer/dryer hook ups so we purchased the appliances. The professional movers we hired had a problem manuevering the tractor trailer through the parking lot so they had to carry everything about 100 feet. But they were being paid and we didn?t have to do it. Smaller trucks would have no trouble or tractor trailers higher off the ground. Other complexes nearby - Paces Brook and Wellsprings are nice as well. However, Paces Brook is more expensive with no added benefits and Wellsprings doesn?t have a defined dining area. The 2 bedroom unit we rented had plenty of room. The master bedroom was a great size with walk in closet. The other bedroom was a decent size as well with direct access to hall bath and walk in closet. The kitchen is galley style and small but adequate. Living room isn?t huge but was fine. Each unit includes a small storage closet off the patio or balconey. Surrounding neighborhood is very nice. The Harbison community offers shopping, recreation center, housing including low income, walking trails and single family home subdivision. Garbage/Recycling is at one central location at the entrance to the complex. This isn't tremendously convenient - you get used to taking garbage bags in your car on the way out. Others tend to keep garbage bags in the breezeways but it wasn't out of control.
