Pro and Cons.. you decide

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009
My roommate and I ended up moving to Cornell Arms because we were running out of time to find a place and her parents wanted us as close to campus as possible. We payed way too much for our apartment ($904.50 per month 2Br/1Bth). The elevators are slow and they smell musty. Parking is a disaster unless you are willing to rent a parking spot for an additional $50.00/month. Our apartment was clean when we moved in, but only because when we did a run-through with Glenn, the property supervisor, and refused to move-in until they cleaned the kitchen and bathroom. We still had to do a lot of cleaning when we moved in. The windows had so much dirt caked on them. I had to use heavy chemicals to clean them.
You can barley hang anything on the walls, because if you try to put a nail in them they crumble to pieces. You have a ton of storage space though, there is a large walk in closet that came in very handy to put my extra clothes in because I got stuck with a bigger room but tiny closet. If you like cooking you should not live here because there is no counter space. If you want a microwave you literally have room for nothing else on the counters. I was forced to cut food on the stove top.
The people there are great. You have a lot of variety on who you will see there, from young to old, single, couples, sorority girls, emo. They have everything and that is cool. You get to meet a lot of interesting people, not to mention you have a great cafe at the bottom of the building (Carolina Cafe). And the view is pretty great if you get an apartment on a higher floor of the building.
Maintenance was great. Every time we put in a work request it was fixed by that evening. Their was a lot of issues with the hot water. But I think they have that fixed now.
Lets face it, the location is unbeatable. But there are other places around that are way cheaper. If you don't have a car and you like the chill retro vibe of a historic building, you'll love this place. If you are just an average college student looking to be close to campus, I'd keep looking..
