Good apartments...for now

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2004
My wife and I were the first occupants of our unit starting in June 2001 and generally we have been very pleased with the apartments. They're spacious, and the appliances are new (though cheap). The office staff is great, parking is more than adequate, and the amenities are very nice (I wish the pool was bigger, it's very tiny). The few times we have had to call maintenance, they have responded promptly and fixed our problems the first time. The occupants are a mixture of families, folks from outside the country working at nearby tech businesses, and people stationed at Fort Jackson.
However, the buildings are starting to show just how cheaply they were built. Our dishwasher nearly fell out of the wall, the paint is flaking off the wood decks, the concrete is cracking, the iron railings are rusting through their black paint--the buildings are looking much older than 5 years old! The walls are thin and noise is sometimes a problem. At the rate they're falling apart, these apartments will soon not be worth the premium price they're charging. Also, despite it being a "gated community," there have been several break-ins and vandalism incidents in the parking lot.
Crowne is going to have to keep their service at current levels and keep the buildings in tip-top shape to keep charging what they're charging for these places. Right now they're worth it, but in a few years they might not be.
