I live in a unit close to I-20. The complex is a little on the older side, and isn't in the most conveniently located part of town, so rent is a bit closer to "reasonable". However, despite 6 requests over the last 9 months, my ice maker hasn't been properly installed. In fact, they never even put in the water line. Having done apartment leasing for a year in a competitive market, I'm flabbergasted that my maintenance requests haven't been taken care of in a reasonable period of time. At properties I've lived/worked, we strived for a 48 hour turn around on maintainence requests, and no more than 2 weeks if we had to call in contractors. We followed up to ensure they had been taken care of. That being said, it has been NINE MONTHS and over 6 visits to the office, and my ice machine has not been installed. The initial excuse for not getting my ice maker taken care of was "we don't have a key". So, I had them replace the door lock, and pestered them again. I was told they STILL didn't have a key and weren't able to get into my apartment. Okay... so, I gave them my key, asked them if they could PLEASE install/fix the ice machine since I really am not fond of purchasing ice, as well as inquired into possibly renewing my lease. A few months have passed. I was told I would get a letter in the mail in regards to a lease rate offer (never happened)... and my ice machine is still not installed. I don't know what I did to piss someone off at the office, especially since I strive to be very polite, but I get the impression that I'm not thought of very fondly to be treated with such negligence on such a reasonable request. If you can tolerate no real response on maintenance requests, it's not a bad place to live. Otherwise, I'd look somewhere else. -Kevin D.
