I saw a news report on WISTV about a tenant at Hamilton Mills who had mold and bugs that the management wouldn't take care of, and I thought I would share some similar experiences that I had there. The first sign that things would be bad was that they refused to show us our actual apartment (not the model) until after we signed the lease. We went into our "new" place and the refrigerator was full of bugs. The walls also were leaking water each time it rained. When we reported the problem, someone came and wiped the dead bugs off of the top shelf, but the entire fridge was infested and the temperature never got very cold. It took about 4 calls and a couple of months to finally get something done. The week we moved in, a pipe busted in the wall and flooded one closet and bedroom. The just told us to turn a fan on it. The place smelled like mold the entire time we lived there. Also, three of the back steps were completely rotten and broken. You had to jump down the steps or risk breaking your leg. In the winter, it was freezing all the time and our electric bill for one month was about $300. I had to sleep in a hat and gloves. Also, the neighborhood wasn't very safe. Once, the belt on our vacuum broke and started smoking. I sat the vacuum outside of the door for about 15 minutes because of the smoke. When I went back to get it, it had been stolen. Also, the community trash bin was constantly messed up and overflowing. You could smell rotting trash every time you walked out the door. People would dump old furniture there and it would stay for months. The tennis court was cracked and covered in sticks and animal droppings. Stay away from this place!

I used to work at Hamilton Mill and it is by far the worst apartment complex in Columbia. The property manager's name was Rhonda and her solution to fixing problems was to cover them up and don't fix them because it would cost too much. The whole property should be condemned and Alexander Properties should be sued for letting people live like that.
