I am the lady that complained to WIS TV. This apartment has now been deemed uninhabitable by the CHIEF FIRE MARSHALL for City of Columbia. Well, she recommended that we vacate the premises within 24 hours. I had this all set up until yesterday. You see, I applied and was approved for an apartment at Rivergate apartments. I was approved based on my credit report and everything, UNTIL..... Rivergate sent a lease verification to Rhonda Renwick, property manager of Hamilton Mills, and then Rivergate came to the conclusion I was not going to be approved. Rivergate stated it was due to the lease verification from Hamilton Mills. Rhonda REFUSES to produce a copy of that to me. EVEN AFTER SHE TOLD WIS TV SHE WOULD SUPPLY ME WITH ANYTHING IN MY FILE! I have NEVER EVEN BEEN LATE on rent and now she tells them I was slated for eviction for nonpayment of rent and that I am a problematic tenant. REGARDLESS of my SPOTLESS RENTAL HISTORY DATING 10 years, I have been scarred by her actions. I am also out the application fees and not to mention, when I go to apply at another apartment complex and they see a RECENT credit inquiry from another apartment, they will wonder why I am in need of another one so soon. Then today, since we refuse to pay rent since this FLOOD has been going on since Aug 22 (we paid ALL of August but refuse to pay for Sept- I haven't even been here since Aug 24 because of this...) and she REFUSED to do anything until the CHIEF FIRE MARSHAL DEEMED IT UNINHABITABLE! The landlord STILL STATES even as recently as an hour ago this apartment is inhabitable. Not according to a follow up call I made to the Fire Marshal.
Anyway, long story short..... HAMILTON MILLS IS RUN BY A SLUMLORD THAT REFUSES MAINTENANCE IF YOU GET ANNOYED AND EXERCISE YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS UNDER THE LANDLORD TENANT ACT OF SC and apparently seems to believe these laws apply to every one BUT HAMILTON MILLS!
Save yourself the AGONY and STRESS, time off of work, ruined belongings, fear of the effects of the mold as we have, as of yet, been unable to have a mold survey done so we do not even know what kind of mold we are dealing with and UTMOST FRUSTRATION and move some place where ghetto engineering is not common place!
If you would like to contact me you can do so via WIS TV. Refer to the report titled, "MOLD,BUGS, and water accumulation at apartment off of Broad River Rd." WIS has been MOST helpful to me and perhaps if you are currently dealing with this, they can help you too. If it is regarding CURRENT WATER, MOLD issues, the CITY OF COLUMBIA CHIEF FIRE MARSHAL, Carmen Floyd will be more than willing to listen to your complaint and investigate. At this point, after WIS TV, she has been a GOD SEND! I just hope NO ONE ELSE EVER has to go through this!

My daughter lived in the above mentioned slum. There were problems from the first day we accompanied her that we should have picked up on. There was a party waiting to move in and had been instructed to come that day. They had their trucks, people to help and ready to go. When they wanted to pick up the key they were told the apartment was not ready. The only consolation was that they could stay in a motel for the weekend and move in on Monday. They were not happy campers. We were not allowed to see the actual apartment that our daughter would be moving into. We were told we could see it on Wednesday. We went back on Friday before move in was supposed to be on Saturday and were told we could not get the keys until after 12:30 on Saturday afternoon because the apartment was not ready. The entire time she lived there the place was infested with bugs, mold and mildew. It smelled very unclean. She had several issues with flooding before the big event. Water ran down the walls around the windows when it would rain because the gutters were never cleaned and the water just ran over the top and down the side. I guess she was labeled a problem tenant when she wanted things to be corrected so she would not have to live at risk in the horrible atmosphere. She was finally able to get out of there by direct order of the Fire Marshall with moving expenses to be paid by the complex. When we tried to retain the same movers to move her to another place we were told that they were never paid for moving her out.
