Great place, read this review!

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2004
First of all, let me say that I have been visiting this site pretty often over the past few months as I was looking for an apartment here in Columbia. I've learned a lot about how to interpret these reviews, and I think there's one very important thing to remember: When reading the reviews for a particular apartment, take them seriously, but not TOO seriously. There are certain aspects of apartment life (such as noise from other residents, etc.) that are virtually standard in any apartment community, no matter how pricey or exclusive. If you can't accept the inevitable risks that accompany apartment living, you shouldn't be living in an apartment. :)
I was initially worried about the number of negative reviews that Paces Brook had, and it almost kept me from visiting it at all! But look closely at most of the reviews for Paces Brook. There are a few from former residents who broke their lease, and are upset that Paces Brook kept their deposit and/or charged them additional fees. One of the first things that they inform you of when you sign a lease here is what will happen if you break the lease. YES, they keep your deposit and charge you other fees. Everyone agrees to this stipulation when they sign a lease, so why does everyone feel the need to blame Paces Brook when it's their own fault that they broke the lease'
Most of the other complaints on this site about Paces Brook concern relatively minor things like the location of mailboxes, parking, or traffic concerns. Personally, I have not had a problem with any of those things, so I suppose it's a matter of opinion. The mailboxes are centrally located (instead of being right next to each building) but I think this works just fine. Parking has not been a problem for me at all, and there always seem to be tons of empty spaces, even at night, so I'm not sure what that reviewer was referring to.
I'm realizing that it's starting to sounds like I work here or something... ;) Believe me, I don't! I just moved to Paces Brook last month when I started grad school at USC. It has been a wonderful place to live so far, and I will be sure to update my recommendation on here if that changes. Paces Brook is hands-down the most beautiful complex I have seen in this area, and the convenience of Harbison just can't be beat. Yes, this involves some additional traffic, but what do you expect' I definitely think it's worth it. The rent prices are also comparable to other apartments in the area (believe me, I checked).
Overall, Paces Brook has been a great place to live so far. The residents seem to be mostly families and younger professional types, and everyone I have met is very friendly. No matter which apartment community you pick, do your research and choose one that YOU feel good about. That's the best advice I can give. :) And I'm sorry this review is so long, but I thought y'all might appreciate a really comprehensive review for once!
