Well, we rented our unit site unseen (I know...) because we were out of the state at the time. I assumed that by picking a NOT-CHEAP apartment, we?d be getting a decent place. Not so.



==== The Good ====:

* The public areas (clubhouse and pool) are very nice, as are the signs leading into the complex.

* The office staff is very pleasant.

* Plenty of parking

* Good access to the freeway

* Nice pool



==== The Bad ====:

Our unit, a 3-bedroom, was rented in horrible condition:

* Extensive mold on bathroom floors next to and under the linoleum) and on the tub walls

* Peeling, cracking linoleum in bathrooms and kitchen

* NO LOCKS ON ANY WINDOWS

* Master bedroom doorknob had no screws (so it fell right off)

* Bathroom door would not close (warped)

* 16 out of 19 electrical outlets were so old they would not hold a plug (plugs drooped out, exposing the plugs)

* Large stain on Living Room and Bedroom carpets

* Hole in Storage unit door

* 2 of the 3 Miniblinds broken.

* Window sill in bedroom rotted away (you could poke your finger thru it).

* Our unit backed up to a fence between the apartments and a run-down shopping center. There was a constant stream of people walking to the shopping center thru a hole torn in the fence, and invariably returning with a bottle in a brown paper bag. Doesn?t give you a good feeling with all that traffic.


On the bright side, the paint was good. True, they painted over the phone outlets and the cable outlets so I had to scrape them with a screwdriver to get a connection, but at least it looked nice.




==== How Did They Handle the Problems ====:

I reported the problems (no locks! Exposed electrical outlets! Yikes!) on a Wednesday. By Friday afternoon, 5 outlets had been replaced, and thumbscrew locks had been put on the windows. No estimate as to when (or if) future repairs would be made.

We moved out ASAP.
