Reduced me to tears

I have been happily living here for the past month, and my first major issue occurs. I come home today after work, and find it to be blistering hot inside my apartment. The temp. inside my apartment is 77 degrees and the A/C is running, with hot air. I throw all the power fuses and reset, the A/C returns pushing minimal air then powers off one minute later. Still at 77 desgrees. I call, and leave a voicemail. A man calls me back stating he cannot help me. Tells me "well open a window" my reply "sir, I can't sleep with a window open." Might I mention I'm a single female. This IS NOT A SAFE SOLUTION. He advises me that it has to be a certain temperature outside for them to fix my A/C after hours. I'm floored, no apartment complex ever, and I've spent many years renting has ever done this to me. He tells me he's the supervisor and there's nothing I can do.
I'm frustrated, no help, I call back, no response, multiple calls later, no calls back. Eventually I end up leaving an emotional tearful (yes I was reduced to tears folks) message on the apartment complex mailbox. I even called my family I was so upset. I was hot, and had no help. I lost my mind. This is not what I pay $677.00 a month for. I could be buying a house for this amount.
Eventually I get a call from the manager advising me she listened to the messages. I tell her I'm so frustrated I don't know what to do - call the media, get a lawyer, NEVER have I been told a problem cannot be fixed - by any apartment complex.
Minutes later a bald man comes in and tries to reset the A/C. Still no cold air, he and my father go downstairs, and discover - the compressor to the A/C unit is not turning on. My father comes upstairs to inform me, that it's not my fault, and that I was right - the A/C IS NOT WORKING.
It's 8:50 now, and he is still here fixing the issue. I started calling at 7:33, the manager did not call me until 8:22pm.
I should also mention that I was misadvised 3 times of my monthly rent. When I was shown this apartment, I was advised $650.00 a month = $632.00 $18.00, when my move in date arrived I was then told to sign for $659.00. I did without question because I though what's $9.00. When I first paid my rent I got a phone call advising me that they did not want me to occur late fees. Shocked I asked why' They stated I didn't pay all my rent. Turns out my rent is $659.00 $18.00 for the pet. Total $677.00 a month. I have had no resolution to this matter, and my rent was raised without my knowledge.

it sound like you live in my old apartment...hehe. My ac never worked correctly, It would never click on, it would be on, but not actually running. Its as if it would just turn the fan on, but not the actual ac. I tried to get them to fix it, I was told it was a filter problem....so glad I left.

Ok I understand you are a single female -- but so am I and I have lived at St. Andrews Commons for over a year. I had a after hours emergency last night (no hot water at 7pm) and wanted to point out to you if you press the correct # to page maintenace out it gives you a list of what are considered emergencies -- It says no a/c only if the temp out side is higher than 80 degrees. I just checked weather.com and the high on April 6 was 70 and the low that night was 46. So the man on the phone was correct in telling you he couldn't come out. If you would like to hear just dial the office number 803-772-0040 and listen to the emergency call line and you will hear it for yourself! Hearing all the negative on this site REALLY makes me upset -- expecially when people don't take the time to listen! St. Andrews Commons is my home and I would recomend this community to all my friends! Oh and by the way emergency was handled in less than 1 hour!!!

Thank you for your feedback anonymous. I find it interesting that as a resident, you provide feedback to me. I am curious if you would provide feedback to all the previous posters here, as I understand you are quite happy living here.
Secondly, I'm even more curious behind your motive of checking the temp. on the date of my post. Normal visitors do not go that far into detail, unless they are affliated with the complex. Also it's interesting that you specifically point out how to check the times, which normal residents and other browsers of this site, do not. If this is the "attitude" of the residents and or office, than I feel that in itself speaks to future tenants. Not a good way to advertise the complex...
Thirdly, if you are sick of all the negative than don't post here - OR how about you write us a review of your experiences.
Lastly, my whole point of this post, was is that in today's economy, some of us are working harder, and longer, sometimes with jobs we dislike or are stressful. I was advised 24-hour service when I moved in. I was not aware of the limitations UNTIL this happened. It's only fair that this is presented upfront, however from a sales perspective this would deter a number of renters like myself as we work night hours, and late shifts, we cannot be up sometimes during the day.
So thank you for your feedback and I hope to read your review soon.

dmt7476 sounds like you still live with you mom and or you are office staff at St Andrews Commons.I would hope they wouldnt hire someone who would make such a childish comment but...evidently there are alot of things they dont do right there. Obviously an ac problem is a real problem. Ive never lived there either, but Ive dealt with ac problems like that before.
