Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
My husband and I just renewed our lease--reluctantly. We have had numerous maintenance issues, including a leak under our tub that dripped water onto a 70-year-old heirloom buffet. Whenever it leaked, the maintenance would simply paint over the leak. They finally fixed the pipes after the fourth complaint, but we now have a piece of plywood nailed to our ceiling where they cut the drywall, which has not been repaired in 6 days. We also have horrible linoleum floors, not cut to the correct size, which are not even close to the beautiful tile floors that were in the model and we were told are in every apartment. All of our appliances are at least 15 years old, and they have no plans to replace them even after complaints that the dishwasher doesn't work. We have had pest problems in the past, mostly mice, but they are fairly prompt about arranging exterminators. Most of our problems stem from being told lies about what our apartment would be like. The actual apartments are not nearly as nice as the model. Our rent went up $36 dollars from last year, and they rescinded the 3% discount we were getting, without any decent explanation, and applied an upcharge for the fireplace in our unit, which we didn't request. Overall, there have been some pretty questionable business practices, and the apartments just aren't that nice. We were looking for something to fit our budget, but we really compromised with this place.
Update--after numerous problems, including pot smoke leaking into our baby's room from God knows where (our neighbor swears it wasn't him, and management was certinaly not interested in finding out who it was), we got out of our lease and moved to a much nicer home. Rent was higher, but our utility bills are at least 50% less, with 300 more square feet to heat and cool! Place has also become a big student housing draw, which is not cool when you have small children. If you want peace and quiet, and a low-maintenance place, this is not the place for you! If you don't care about noise or if your home looks nice, and don't mind paying $200 monthly in utilities, then by all means, Stone Ridge is the place for you.
