Not too bad, not too good

I moved to Tamarind to be closer to downtown, since I was in grad school at USC at the time. The year before that, I lived at Paces Brook in Harbison and loved it there. Tamarind definitely wasn't as nice and I knew that before I moved in, but I was willing to sacrifice because it was closer to town and less expensive.

One of the main things I noticed at Tamarind is that they don't try very hard to make things look nice. My previous complex had gorgeous landscaping, almost everything looked freshly painted, very neat and clean looking. Tamarind has very minimal landscaping, the paint on my building was old and peeling... it just isn't a very attractive place. I also didn't feel as safe at Tamarind as I did when I lived in Harbison. It's just a different kind of area. I often walked my dog around the complex in the evenings, but I wouldn't have felt safe around there at night unless my dog was with me.

Inside my apartment, it was fairly nice, but a bit dated looking. My sliding glass door was very difficult to open, and they told me they were planning to install a new one. Which was great until the guys who installed it did a terribly messy job and actually left a decent sized hole in the wall right at the edge of the door. Other maintenance issues sometimes took a few requests before someone would show up, but I didn't need them very often.

So all in all, it's an okay place to live if you need something close to downtown and have a limited budget. But I wouldn't recommend it very highly. Oh, and for some reason they also only returned $30 of my security deposit. I have no idea why, since my apartment was immaculate when I left, but I didn't feel like fighting it since I had already moved out of state. But just be aware of that!
