Do not rent from any Johnson Deveopment Properties!

I chose to live on this property because it was described as "upscale" and "luxury apartments". I have lived here since July 2007, and anxiously waiting for my lease to end! Being a single mom, I can not afford to pay the fees for breaking my lease added to a new rent payment or mortgage. There is a high turnover for the office staff. Rarely have I seen the same person twice in the office. The current office staff is very unprofessional and not helpful.
The apartments are shoddy, especially considering they are new. The pool area is disgusting. The bathrooms at the clubhouse are never clean, never have toilet paper or soap, and always in need of repair.
EVERY SATURDAY AND SUNDAY the trash dumpster is completely full, and all residents can do is place trash outside and around the dumpster. It stays like this every week until Monday.
I have had problems with mice and roaches since day 1. I called them several times, they sent someone out. I now just deal with the problem myself.
Another inconvience, the office will not accept packages for the residents to pick up at the office (even if we do not need to sign for it). I was told this is just an inconvenience for the office staff.
The office hours posted on the sign and actual hours of operation are not the same. They are very inconsistent.
The elementary school my children attend have been rezoned to a different school next year (much farther away from Barry Shoals), and Johnson Development will not take that into consideration to break the lease early.
I urge you to read the lease agreement thouroughly before signing (which we should anyway) and also know that the friendly and helpful person in the office is totally different once you become one of their "employees". We are not treated as guests.
Good luck.

Everything you have said here is true. I decided to break the lease and will be paying for a very long time. Also, when they do the inspection, they will charge double the necessary amount for things you didn't even know about. So if you think you have kept your apartment clean and perfect, they will find something to charge you for.

I am responding to my own review. Things have really changed for the better in the past few weeks. I ACTUALLY RENEWED MY LEASE!!! I am still not a fan of Johnson Development, but am a fan of the new team in the office. They are professional, fun, and making this property feel like home again. We had a BBQ by the pool last week that was a blast and there was a great turn out. They are planning lots of fun events monthly. Also, the trash, bug and rodent problem is gone. I was told that a new company was hired. I hope that Johnson Development will take notice of a job well done--keep the 3 ladies we have in the office, and we can't live without our maint. guy!!! I will leave this on here for a while in case others want to add something, then I will delete so I can change the ratings I gave.
The only suggestions I have is parking--I think residents should be allowed 1 or 2 parking spaces in front of the buildings. Friends and family should use the extra ones. Oh, and wouldn't mulch be nice? Come on now--why the pine needles? Fire and bugs are just waiting to happen...not to mention it looks cheap for an upscale community. Am I being too picky? Step it up Johnson Development! We pay enough!
