Positive Experience

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2004
3/24/2004: Overall my experiences at Coventry Green have been very positive. The community was brand new when I moved here in 2001. It is starting to show its age a little, but it is still the newest and fanciest community in Goose Creek. The complex is landscaped and well maintained. Litter is not a real problem, though the grass stays brown most of the year. Still, landscapers are here every week doing their thing. There is ample parking. There is a laundry room, computer room, and billiards. Regrettably, previous tenants abused some of these facilities and the leasing manager began closing these areas at 5:00 pm when the office closes. This saves the rest of us the added expense of constant repairs and replacement, albeit at the cost of restricted availability. The laundry room closes promptly at 10:00 pm and the fitness center is 24/7. The fitness equipment is very good overall, but the bikes are probably ready for replacement. The pool and deck area is pretty nice. The pool apron extends into the small lake, which provides a really cool view if you are lucky enough to get an apartment overlooking the lake.
My apartment is really spacious and functional. The bedrooms and living areas are much larger than at competing apartment complexes in the entire charleston area. But the bathroom is very small and the kitchen has only a limited amount of usable counter space and only a few cabinets. However, there is a really cool pantry that adds substantial storage space. It is a real pantry, not just a tall cabinet with multiple doors. A linen closet would be useful, but I make do with the space available beneath the bathroom sink and in the coat closet. There is also outside storage.
The apartments are located in a nice residential neighborhood with lots of trees and literally miles of jogging trails. Two huge lakes, a park, and lots of greenspace make this a nice area to call home. Others evidently agree - traffic can be hassle during rush hour. The complex itself is well lit and safe. The management seems to be especially conscious of enforcing community rules (cleaning up after pets, litter, noise, etc.); however, trash build-up at the trash compactor has always been a sore point. They could do a much better job at controlling the mess around the compactor. It simply is not big enough for everyone and as a result, trash bags accumulate outside until someone cleans it all up. Noise is rarely a problem. The mix of tenants is my favorite part. You will find professionals, young families, and Navy kids who attend the nearby Nuclear Power School. Regardless, most everyone respects the property, their neighbors, and the facilities - a testament to both management and to the residents.
My apartment seems constructed well enough -the walls suppress most noise from neighboring units. The ceiling, however, does transmit some noise from the tenants upstairs. The textured ceiling and recessed lighting are nice touches, but the vinyl flooring in the kitchen and foyer is cheap and poorly installed. A few of the doorway and floor moldings were literally broken to the correct size instead of being neatly cut to size. I only needed three minor repairs; all of which were fixed that same day. One request - on a Sunday, was responded to in less than 30 minutes!!
The office staff is friendly and responsive. There has been considerable turnover in the past 3 years, and the current staff seems friendly and helpful.
I recommend Coventry Green.
