I just moved out of these apartments not too long ago. I have to say the time i stayed there wasnt too horrible there were a few things, maintenance issues that took weeks to resolve (example we never had a screen door upon move in so we asked for one it took at least 2 weeks for a screen door TWO WEEKS!!!''!'!)
The dog poop is pretty bad, i had a dog there and we really did pick up after her most of the time but there were a few times when theres so much around already it was pointless, not to mention that we didn't have a poop stand/holder/trash thing near our apartment so we had to keep in the apartment in a seperate trash can until we took the trash out... that go old fast. speaking of having pets they charge an outrageous fee for pets. we have a lab but shes the runt of the litter and shes a puppy meaning shes very small for a lab, we still paid 400 dollars just to have her there.
The compactor was always overflowing and the parking was pretty rediculous.
Most of the trouble came at move out. yeah so our lease ended feb 28th, they required a 60 day notice of moving out (first off 60 days''') so we had to have it in by jan 1st. well we went on vacation for christmas and tried to turn it in on the dec 15th when we were told we werent allowed to turn it in until 60 days for the lease ended... ok made sense to us. so we leave we get back the weekend of the first i think it was that sunday which their not open, they werent open on the 1st so couldn't get it to turn in that day either. they left us a note on the 2nd asking what we were going to do (move out renew etc.) so the next day on the 3rd we turn in the notice saying no were moving out. We clean the apartment get it emptied out etc and go to return the keys on feb 28 only to be told we owe rent for march 1st, 2nd, and 3rd because we didn't turn in the notice til jan 3rd. so theres a 103 bucks due.
I get on the phone pretty pissed off start yelling and just keep gettin bogus responses from the apparently faultless staff.
Then i get the bill. 2 sets of blinds were damaged (most likely from the dog that we paid 400 dollars to have in the apt). so we owe an extra 70 dollars. I don't know where they buy there blinds from but i bought the exact same ones for the house i bought at 8 bucks each (rounded up!) oh and apparently the pet fee does NOT cover anything the pet may do in that apartment its just extra money they charge for you to keep your beloved pet and the 250 buck refurb fee' yeah that doesnt cover blind damage either it covers "normal wear and tear to the apartment" but blinds arent covered in that.
My overall intention here is to discourage as many people as i can from having to deal with these shady people. The only cool ones are the maintenance staff. I only stayed for 6 months and that was 6 months too long. I stayed in Jamison Park in North Charleston for a year and yeah maybe its not as "nice" a neighborhood but i paid less could usually find a parking spot never waited more than 2 days for maintenance issues and never had a problem there.
Sorry to go on for so long but this association really is just that bad. I will continue to tell as many friends and people as i can to steer clear of this complex.
