Once my 6 month lease was close to up I went ahead and paid the last month even though I didnt live there. Afterwards, I practically had to beg for my $200 deposit back. The lease states that they have 30 days to mail the check from when your lease ends. Well I never got mine! For 2 weeks I made phone calls asking where my check was. I was told to speak to my new apartment's office or contact the post office. First of all it was not responsibility to contact anyone. After threatening them with an attorney they finally looked into finding my check. They claimed the check was mailed and they did infact have my correct address. They found out that the check had not cleared so they told me they would reissue another one. The drawback to reissuing according to them is that thier bank fines them $30 for voiding a check. I was told that I would be charged that $30! Of course I refused and told them I would take them to small claims court if they did in fact charged me. Remember: You are not liable if you give the correct address. Legally, they can not charge this and there was never proof the mailed it in the first place. BEWARE!
