Do not move to the Carlyle unless you are willing to pay $1000 upon moving out. I have a small well trained dog and when I was having my final move out inspection they brought in this horrible black light to check the carpets. Who does this' They said they do it to everyone (even if they do not have pets) but I find this hard to believe since one of my coworkers said this never happened to him when he moved out. They told me they have been doing this procedure for 10 years and yet they did not tell me about this when I moved in. Of course there are going to be stains on the carpet if you look at it with a black light. I called an expert carpet cleaning service in the area and was surprised to find that he knew exactly where I lived when I explained to him they had come in with a black light and now wanted me to pay for the replacement of the carpet. He said it was a scam and that there are over 100 things that glow the same as urine under a black light and that different intensities show different colors. There is no definite way to tell this was urine except chemical testing. On top of all this...what did I pay my pet fee for' I put down a security deposit and a pet deposit...shouldn't this be enough' Keep it like any normal apartment complex and move on. Instead they are telling me that my pet deposit was only a fee and will not be applied to the carpet replacement. Why should I be punished for them allowing me to have a pet...especially after I have paid them for allowing me. I know my dog did not go up and down the hallway urinating everywhere...seems I might would have noticed this. I intend to not pay when I get the final bill. I told them I would be glad to have the carpets professionally cleaned but this was not good enough. I told them I would be willing to have the carpets replaced myself because I felt I could have it done cheaper. This was also not good enough. I feel like I have made the effort and they can keep my deposits but I do not intend on paying.

BS! Its a GREAT place to live, period. I lived there for about 2 years and relocated to Myrtle Beach. The apartments and staff are a class act. The maintenance crew is the best I have seen anyplace. Pets ruin a carpet, everyone knows that. Its likely these people let their dog poop on the sidewalk as well. The Carlyle is great. RWD

I also just moved out of the Carlyle...and they did the exact same thing to me. My dog is well trained as well. Did you notice how the "pet stains" that they were trying to blame on your dog were long streams about 15 feet long? I have a female dog, and there is no way that a dog can use the bathroom in a constant stream, for at least 15 feet. It looks like someone took a squirt bottle to my room. I have notice that the maintenance people would come in my apartment without notifying me. I think they did something to the carpet. Everyone should STAY AWAY from this complex. The staff is extremely rude and they cannot get their act together. File a complaint with the BBB.

I think I will as soon as I get a bill for the new carpet. They are coming out on Monday to replace it. I am going out there today to be there when they pull up the carpet (I'm taking the expert with me).

My boyfriend and I were looking at renting here. We have a dog as well. I'm glad to know some of what I would have gotten had we moved in there. They told us when we called to ask about it that we had to get some test done to prove that our dog was what we said it was!

This is soooo true! They are frauds and the same exact thing happen to me as well. I suggest that everyone that has been a victim of this should report The Carlyle to the Better Business Bureau. They will investigate cases and if you really want to stick it to the man that is going to be the best idea to do. What they are doing is illegal and should be stopped! I too, need to get on the BBB website and report them and I plan on it too. I have been told it is something that only takes 15 minutes to do. Everyone has 15 minutes to turn in these frauds!
