STAY CLEAR OF THE HALCYON!!!!

To those who read this post, take heed. On June 9, 2007, I went to the leasing office and expressed my interest in renting an apartment at the Halcyon. Although the model apartment was not aesthetically pleasing, I liked the size, so I decided I would rent an apartment with them. I told the leasing agent that I would need an apartment by the end of the month, and as a stipulation before doing a contract, I would first like to see the apartment I would be renting. I was told the apartment was not ready yet. I asked when would it be ready and I was told June 22. On June 22, I went and looked at the apartment and was astounded by the atrocious condition I found it in. None the less, I wrote down a list the discrepancies I found. Here's a list of what I found; carpet badly stained in all rooms and borders throughout pulling up from flooring, linoleum flooring in kitchen and foyer area badly scratched and damaged, front door did not close properly, kitchen was very dirty, garbage disposal did work properly.
I took the list to the property manager and presented it to her. I told her that I would not move into the apartment until these problems were fixed. She assured me she would "take care of me".
On June 27, I went back to the Halcyon and inspected the apartment. They had replaced the linoleum floor, but that was all they did. Disgusted with results, I called the management company (regional office) of the Halcyon and spoke to a customer service representative to see if I could get some resolution because I needed to move soon. The next day I went to the leasing office and was confronted by the property manager who expressed her displeasure at me because I had contacted her boss. She said her regional manager was convinced that "there was no way I would be pleased with their efforts" and that I would be "happier if my deposit was refunded". With that said, I decided this was a stalement and opted for my refund. However, the Halcyon had already cashed my deposit check and now I will have to wait two weeks to actually get my refund. This could go into litigation.
I would not recommend this place to anyone, but if you choose not to heed this warning, ask to look at the apartment before you decide to rent.

Similar to my experience except I was renting long distance sight unseen. I had no choice but to go forward. It seems they are losing their "A" rating rather quickly. Since moving here I have found that there a much newer and nicer apartments nearby for close to the same price. The only thing they did that I appreciated was a rent abatement. Their efforts to "fix" the problems have been feeble.
