Great place to live

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
I moved here immediately after finishing a master's at Clemson in May, 2007. I was looking for a tasteful, safe, clean and pet-friendly complex to accommodate myself, my fianc and her small dog. The office staff was far beyond cordial and seemed to genuinely care about satisfying our needs. For example, the apartment we were to move into was previously owned by one who had not exactly house-broken their pets. Management pursued their corporate supervisors to replace the carpet, even though this is not generally done. My fianc and I eagerly signed a 2 yr lease after this and were grandfathered in at the current rental rate for our 2 year lease. Riverland Woods s staff, management and Intermark, their corporate head, seem to emphasize customer service and satisfaction. The well-kept grounds are not merely for show...it is indicative of their management style. They are meticulous in their up-keep and I have never gone more than 24 hours without having a maintenance request handled.
As is true with all complexes, you can sometimes hear neighbors, but there is a noise ordinance throughout the complex that is enforced. Pricing is competitive to other complexes in Charleston and particularly in James Island. Other benefits such as a business center (computers, copiers and fax machines open for use 24-7 and free of charge), swimming pool (relatively large and very well-kept) and a workout complex (somewhat small but adequate for nearly every workout need) also assisted us in making our decision. Riverland Woods has even networked with a local drycleaning place that is EXTREMELY convenient. Tenants need only to bring their clothes to the office, the office has the drycleaning place come get and clean your clothes, they bring them back, you pick them up in the office at the end of the week and pay the bill from the drycleaning when you get it in the mail.
The only minor frustration I have involves their trash compactor. There is only one and many tenants are lazy and seem unwilling to bring their trash to the door. Often times trash is literally piled around so that it is impossible to dispose of things correctly, but this is tenant stupidity, not management responsibility...though another compactor and recycling would be appreciated.
As for safety, I have counted at least 5 courtesy officer cars throughout the complex. The majority of tenants seem to be friendly and tend to keep to themselves. One of the things I appreciate about living here is the highly diverse populace. I've seen families, singles, elderly people, working professionals, etc. THIS IS NOT A PARTY COMPLEX.
All in all, Riverland Woods has thus far been an excellent place to stay, made so primarily by the highly capable management staff and well-maintained grounds and buildings. It is safe, parking is adequate and pricing is comparable. This is a great place to live.
