Upstairs on the Lake is best
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 7/14/2003
Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2003
The upstairs apartments have more sq. foot in the 2nd bedroom which has a large almost bay window. It has a large/spacious closet. Sort of a walk-in closet with 2 hanging bars and shelves. There was a 2nd full bathroom with a linen closet next to this bedroom. Each bedroom was on opposite ends of the living room. (PERFECT for 2 roommates--have their own bathroom.)
The upstairs apts also have the skylight and vaulted ceilings which make the living room/dining area more open and seem larger. Had a nice size balcony with a storage shed. Unfortunately, no good place to put the bikes unless you wanted to roll it thru your living room to the balcony/storage. Kitchen was pretty good, included overhead microwave, had a garbage disposal, fridge, stove, dishwasher. Had an opening into the dining room, almost like a breakfast bar but not quite. Had a laundry room w/d connections off the kitchen. Always had problems with the folding door though.
The entrance way had a nice large "coat" closet with a shelf. It had a nice fireplace that was tiled and had a "step" in front of it. Too bad it didn?t have a mantle.
The master bedroom had a full bath in it, but it was kind of like a hotel style. The sink/mirror were actually outside the bathroom. The bathroom had the tub/shower and a toilet. It would have been better to build the wall out and include the sink or put in a sliding door to the bathroom instead. As it is, you had to climb over the toilet into the tub in order to get the door shut. The master bedroom has a rather large, spacious closet with shelves/clothes bars on either side. Kind of a walk in closet, but you can really only walk straight in about 4 or 5 feet.
Only other nusiance in the apartment was the fact that in my particular one, there were several light switches that didn?t go to anything--didn?t work a light nor a plug.
Most apartments have a great view of the "lake" (it?s only about 3 feet deep but very large pond). Many people enjoy feeding the ducks and fishing at the "lake". There are also some tiny turtles around the "lake". There are also several benches around the sides of the lake. Tere is a picnic table and grill on the side by the clubhouse. There was lots of "road space" to ride bikes. In addition, HOME Farm Rd. behind the community is a nice quiet road to ride bikes and in the back you get a view of the marsh between Mt.P and Sullivan's Isle.
They have a large pool and a nice jacuzzi. Didn?t like that it was closed every Monday--ALL DAY for cleaning/chlorinating. And didn?t like that the bathrooms in the attached club house were not accessible from the poolside (doors always locked) and you had to go around to the front to use the restroom. However, if you paid the fee for an access key to the fitness center (4 pieces of equipment) then you could get in from the poolside. They are open on Saturdays which was nice. The Clubhouse was nice to rent out too. I didn?t like the mailboxes, they didn?t shut tight.
There aren?t assigned parking spots, but usually plenty depending on which side of the building you wanted to park on.
They also had boat parking and one lighted tennis court. There was also a basketball hoop erected while I was there.
TV reception there was terrible!! You can only get 3 main stations. You can?t get the regular cable, but you can get the island cable which only gives you maybe 3 extra channels. Best bet is to get satellite (like direct tv but you need to have permission to mount the satellite or you need to have it on a pole in the ground--CHECK WITH MANAGEMENT FIRST.).
Maintenance calls usually took a few days to get handled. Sometimes you had to call a few times to get things done. I moved before they changed management, so I don?t know if the maintenance got any better.
The neighborhood was usually quiet, except for my one specific neighbor below me. The neighborhood was landscaped nice and kept up well. However, the dog owners were TERRIBLE about cleaning up after their pets in spite of the policy of being fined for such. Unfortunately, there was dog doo ALL OVER. Even on the sidewalk! This really outraged me how inconsiderate the dog owners were there! That was the worst part about the apartment community. The landscapers came about once a week to mow and they also cleaned up the dog doo.
I lucked out and got in when they were having a special on the rent (I think it was 1 month free or something) and waiving most of the security deposits.
Whitesides Elementary School District.
