I've been at River Oaks for almost a year now, and I think I'll be renewing my contract there simply because the staff is being cooperative (sp'). They are letting me move into a bigger apartment before my lease is up. They're also knocking some money off of the rent per month. The apartments are very nice and well kept. The carpet is replaced (with cheap carpet) before you move in. They repaint before you move in. They'll fix anything you find wrong before you move in. (The maintenance guys are GREAT!)
Bugs are a problem here, especially during the summer. However, everyone needs to keep in mind that we live by the water and that in the good ole state of SC, these critter are expected!
Dog poop. I DO pick up after my dog, however my roommate doesn't because he refuses to pick up warm dog poop. I pick it up after him, hoping I'm not picking up some other person's dogs poop. That is a problem, there are a lot of people that let their dogs crap everywhere, and it smells! I haven't had an experience with barking dogs, thank goodness!
There are a lot of younger people living in the complex. I am 24 and I know there are a lot of tennants a lot younger than me. They do make noise and keep me up at night at times, but I've called the cops. There are also people (I'm assuming younger) that FLY through the parking lot. It's annoying and it makes me worry for younger kids that play around the area and for people walking, or walking their dogs!
I wouldn't depend on management to do anything about any problem. The women in the office come across as extremly snobby and kind of look down their nose at you. It's annoying.
The mail man is a nut ball. He drives down the road crazily, he tailgates you, and swerves down the semi-narrow road that leads back to the complex. He even had the nerve to "snap" at me when I asked if the mail on the other side of the boxes were filled and if I could get my mail. He never leaves slips in your mail box so you never know if you have a package at the office or not. Then if you go and ask the staff if they have it, half the time they can not find it, even though they DO have it.
In the laundry facility there are 7 washers and 6 dryers. Most of the time you have to wait your turn, it's annoying. That, or there is one broken.
The landscaping is nice, people just need to pick up after their dogs. They dye the ponds this icky, nasty blue color. It's SO tacky and ugly, but it's nice having ponds with fountains. Maybe the blue stuff is to get rid of the mosquitos'''
The playground for kids is nice and so are the tennis courts. There's a sand volley ball court that's nice. The pool is excelent during the summer. They do need more lounge chairs.
Overall it's a pleasant place to live. The girls in the office are my only real complaint. Hope this helps.
Oh, the the perfect score reviews, are definately from the staff. NOTHING is perfect there. And who really uses words like "superb", "amenities", and other words that come out of apartmentguide.com'''
