I used to live at Edgewater/River Oaks and all I can say is that the rent at Edgewater Plantation is simply outrageous for what you actually get with the apartment!! It simply isn't any better than other less expensive apartments that I've lived in. I wouldn't buy into the luxury apartments idea at Edgewater if I were you or you will be disappointed. The only thing that "luxury" means is that you're going to pay a lot more than you should. Honestly, I don't see how anyone could feel good about their stay after your lease is up when you know that you could have gotten something just as good in the main sector of town for about $200 cheaper per month.
The interior design at Edgewater is also very poor and makes for a rather awkward living experience, especially with regard to the living room which is an architectural monstrosity. Also, the apartments are rather cramped and, because of the architectural flaws, you can't really make good use of the space that you do have.
Noise can also be a problem, but I have seen worse in my time. With that being said, the walls and ceilings are thin. Roaches are a VERY serious problem at Edgewater, and although you get this most anywhere in this area, they seem to be particularly bad at Edgewater. Another problem with Edgewater is the location. Unless your business is on Longpoint Road, you are going to be doing a lot more driving than you want to do. Wando Park Road is a very long and winding road that is off of Longpoint that you must negotiate every single time you drive in and out of Edgewater, and believe me, it gets very old. I suppose this adds to the apartment complex's seclusion, but the road is actually very dangerous considering the way people drive around there.
With regard to the location, the only way to get to the main part of Mt. Pleasant is to go all the way back up the winding and neverending Wando Park Road, then onto Longpoint Road, and then you either take 526 East to Mt. Pleasant or Whipple Road to Mathis Ferry, etc., etc., you get the idea. With gas prices the way they are, I think you can see where this road is going.
The parking is actually pretty good, and the grounds are clean, but nothing to write home about. Edgewater is also a safe place to be for the most part, but most places in Mt. Pleasant are. The exterior of the apartments is very nice, but the interior simply is not that good at all. The maintenance staff is adequate, most of the time, but I did have trouble on a couple of occasions. The office staff is a mixed bag with a high turnover rate, but not a major problem. However, my personal experiences with the office manager (no longer there I understand) were very similar to my previous dealings with a used car salesman, so do not be fooled by his appearance.
Overall, the Edgewater experience was not a good one for me. My advice is to live somewhere else and save the $200-300 more in rent (not to mention gas and the water bill that you have to pay as well) that you would pay at Edgewater and spend it on something else.
