Nice, but not worth the price.

I've lived here now for 3 months and have enjoyed it overall. The apartment itself is quite nice as it was renovated fairly recently. Whenever there is a problem with something in the apartment, it's taken care of fairly quickly, with a few exceptions.
We had a leak in our shower from cracks in the grout between the tiles that was leaking into our bedroom closet (adjacent to the bathroom). The first time it was "fixed," it took a little over a week to get it taken care of. In the interim, a big sheet of plastic was taped over the entire tile area of our shower. A couple of weeks later, I noticed that some of the tiles that were not fixed (and should have been) were leaking still because of cracks in the grout. This time, we had to wait about a week again to get it fixed (with plastic taped over the tiles again).
I will say that the maintenance staff is very friendly and good at what they do. The office staff is quite friendly, but sometimes not as thorough in explaining things as they could be.
Personally, we have our own washer/dryer and do not have to worry about using the on-site laundry facilities, but if we did, I do not think I'd be very happy with them as there are 2 washers and 2 dryers that service the entire community. On top of that, you must buy tokens from the office staff in order to use them, which makes cleaning your clothes quite a hassle.
The grounds are quite nice, although I'm not sure if anyone uses the physical fitness course. The pool is nice, when it's been cleaned of pine needles. There is a volleyball court, although it appears as though it hasn't been used in quite some time. There are also tennis courts that appear to be in decent shape. The playground area looks nice enough; I don't have kids, so I don't really know.
I have had an occassional problem with loud neighbors next door. Several dogs bark relentlessly in addition to the slamming of doors that is so hard it shakes our door. Otherwise, it's fairly quiet and people seem to be friendly enough. No vandalism or crimes of the sort to my knowledge since I've been here.
I will agree with some of the other residents who wrote reviews that I do not care for the way the water bill is set up. Looking at many other places, it appears as though the water bill is typically included in the rent for an apartment, but I can live with that.
My biggest complaint, that has yet to be fully resolved, is bugs. I'm not an expert, but I'm guessing that because of the large amount of vegetation that surrounds the apartments, bugs are inevitable. It's quite annoying to wake up in the middle of the night and attempt to use the restroom, not knowing if you're going to step on a "Palmetto bug" (a glorified roach). Twice, not once, but twice, a palmetto bug has landed on my head to awaken me in the middle of the night. Trust me, it's not something that was very enjoyable. Sure, the office staff will try to apease you and tell you that they'll put you on the list to have your apartment sprayed for bugs. That works...for about 2 days. Then you have to get on the list again for the next week and so on and so on. If they would just get rid of the bugs on a building by building basis rather than an apartment by apartment basis, there wouldn't be a problem. I've had to resort to buying my own pesticides, which seem to work better than anything the bug man sprays. Upon applying insecticides myself, I noticed several large holes that are a prime place for "Palmetto bugs" as well as others to enter our apartment.
A side note: "Palmetto bugs" is put in quotation marks because when we first moved here, it was explained to us by the office staff that they were not actually roaches and that they were nothing to worry about because they don't spread diseases. The first of those statements is quite untrue upon personal investigation. "Palemtto bugs" are, in fact, roaches; however, they are the "cleaner" version of roaches. Regardless, they are roaches and they are annoying. The office staff will instruct you on how to properly clean your apartment (because we don't know how to do that ourselves) in order to keep them away. Guess what' That doesn't work. My biggest complaint here is that when they were informed that we had put some of our own pesticides down, they were concerned about their precious carpet being harmed, which was already in not that great of shape, rather than getting rid of the pests. I just feel that the whole problem was/is being dealt with in a very impersonal manner.
In addition to the "Palmetto bugs," there are also large centipede like things that are always just outside of your apartment door. Ocassionally you'll see some of the smaller millipede looking things inside as well.
Overall, I feel that the apartment is fairly nice, but over-priced compared to what you could get for just as good of quality. I think they feel that their location justifies their higher prices, but the bug problem definitely negates that. Another side note, our rent is currently $795 a month, but that would be going up to $815 a month if we were to stick around for another year, just something else to think about. k6tKKzmJrmATU2ap682S

I noticed the bugs too - in fact, a cockroach was crossing the office ceiling as the lady was going over the lease. But I've lived in warm climates long enough not to be surprised. You can't really get rid of them when they live outside. Sealed food containers are a good idea, but cleanliness alone won't eliminate them. At least I haven't seen a 6-inch cockroach here yet, as I found climbing my wall in Florida once. On the plus side, when I asked the exterminator to come after finding several in one day, it was effective. I haven't seen one inside since. On the price side - this is one of the more convenient and expensive neighborhoods around, so price isn't likely to be among the attractions, but it's in line with the location and condition. I couldn't find anything cheaper in Mt. Pleasant that wasn't inconvenient or of lower quality. (But if I missed something, I'd welcome the recommendation!)
